I read somewhere, don't remember where since I've looked at so much relating to this topic, that Sam absolutely did not ask for any fee.   It has to do with contractual obligations and releases and other legal things that were asked for but were never forthcoming, and that is why he has declined.  If I come across it again I will post it, but now I'm going skiing! Later ya'll

It was the letter from Sam's attorney that I had read.  It's too bad that he's being exploited along with other musicians.  As far as the other performers, I hope they bring in some money for the ACS and that the folks who do end up going have a good time.  I've decided not to go, so maybe all you folks that I was planning on seeing will come to Colorado for a festival, where events put on by Planet Bluegrass are always what they promise and then some!
As far as to why this discussion is here, well, I think the original post in the topic is where a majority of us first heard about this March 20th show, and it was where I also first heard about the cancellation(s).  Otherwise I probably would have never known about it.
p.s. the skiing was GREAT yesterday woo hoo

Monte,

From my perspective there is nothing for which you need to apologize - you were only trying to inform bluegrass fans of what appeared to be an awesome and historic event. It's not your fault that the promoters mislead some folks.

I don't hold any ill will to you, in fact it's just the opposite. Your music posts and links on this forum are awesome and I appreciate it.  Cheers

Billy

Thanks, Billy.

You all are very, very welcome. I have been thrilled and tickled to have been sharing these old tape recordings of mine with thousands of you during the past year or so. I recently put everything together in one place. It is all trade-friendly and legit: streaming audio, downloads - all popular audio formats are supported, and bit torrents. Not to mention some cool pics and a few extras. I have been posting here on Festivarian about this stuff for over one year. This has been an honor.

my old Tapes include these shows:

Grateful Dead + Allman Bros (no ABB) - an orgy of sound!
RFK Stadium, Washington, DC - June 9 / 10, 1973

Norman Blake, Tut Taylor, Sam Bush,
Vassar Clements, John Hartford and Dave Holland
NY Academy of Music - New York City - April 7, 1974

Central Park Sheiks
The People's Warehouse - Greenwich Village, NYC - May xx, 1974

Josh Graves set, Norman Blake set, Vassar Clements set
Take It Easy Ranch Bluegrass Festival - Callaway, MD - July 20, 1974

Hillbilly Jazz band w/ Vassar Clements and Doug Jernigan
Exit / In - Nashville, TN - April 4 / 5, 1975

Bluegrass Alliance w/ Vince Gill
Great Midwestern Bluegrass Music Hall - Louisville, KY - Sept 23, 1975

Newgrass Revival
Bluegrass Renaissance - Louisville, KY - Sept 28, 1975

Boone Creek w/ Ricky Scaggs, Jerry Douglas, Vince Gill
Holiday Inn lounge - Louisville, KY - March xx, 1976

Lazy River w/ Vince Gill

Why lay him out? Let's put the little bastard to work. I'll skip the going back to the fold part, move to Az City, become an elder in  the rLds, and put DTM to work herding Navajo/churro sheep on those high desert plateaus, he'll have nothing but bacon n beans for awhile.

a couple of things...

Ron & Jess:

The "General Discussion" board is meant for just that...discussion about general topics of interest (within reason and in the good spirit of a family environment, of course). There is no reason why this discussion should not be had here, especially considering how many of you it has affected. If others are coming from the BGH website to talk about the events as they have unfolded, we are happy to host a place where fellow bluegrass lovers can come and vent their frustrations and possibly find some solace with fellow bluegrass aficionados. Billy & Hope are right, we/ I have no intention of censoring this place...just so long as the conversations and things posted remain within the realm of decency.

Monte: I don't think anyone faults you in any of this. As previously mentioned, you only did your best to spread the word about the prospect of a fantastic and historical event. You had no way of knowing how the cards would fall. You're posts here on the forum have given us all a look into the past and the same history you were trying to promote...and for that we thank you. We all look forward to more from you, and hope that you know that you are welcome here, always.

everyone else:

I'm sorry that so many of you have been hurt, both emotionally and financially by the apparent collapse of this event. I too at one point had considered attending for my on education on the historic time in Bluegrass/ Newgrass that was the Bluegrass Hotel. The event was sure to be one for the books. My thoughts go out to the performers involved and hope that everyone will not hold them accountable for actions that were, presumably, beyond their control. I have the utmost respect for both Sam and John, and know that given any other option, they would have never have taken such drastic actions affecting their friends and fans.

Howdy Folks,

I just got off the phone with Teresa Dunn at the Galt House. They have now agreed to a 100% refund to any one who has purchased the Hotel/Ticket package for Bill Millet's/Bluegrass Hotel Debacle.

Her Phone Number is (502) 588-4043. If you talk to her, tell her how much we all appreciate her help in this mess.
