Oh ... and what key are we planning to play in????

FYI folks - there's a FB invite - hopefully this'll attract a few more (with talent)...

Thanks to Erin for putting this together!

Please join the TBF musical flash mob of 2011! Invite many, many people!

!COME JAM!
The tune is Angeline the Baker in the key of D. For general reference, see Crooked Still's version. Our 'spontaneous' performance will be held on Saturday, June 18th at Elks Park. Exact time TBD per workshop, performance schedule (early in the day).

What we need right now are PEOPLE!! Lots and lots of people! Sign up and plan to come with your strings, your pipes, your peruvian flutes.... whatever you've got
It's an easy song to learn, if you don't know it yet!

So, please be the wildly creative and bold festivarian that you are deep down inside be part of something EPIC. In the town of Telluride. In June. Imagine that.
Do it. Kazoo it.
Cheers!!

PS...As far as pace goes, I'm sure that someone will begin and all will fall into place.  Besides, it starts slow and goes faster and faster, what fun!!!  It's gonna be perfect!  Flower

And you can always fake it if it gets too fast!  Practice that too and it'll look like you haven't missed a beat. budumdum-joke

Seeing that we have a whole lot of ambitious folks out here, and realizing that we're all likely of varying talents practicing to a different pace in our heads, may I suggest that we decide how fact ATB will be played?  Those who are more experienced and talented will likely be more comfortable playing really fast, but then leaving many of the rest of us behind.  Perhaps someone could suggest a tempo (in metronome time) that represents a comfortable pace for the majority.  Then we can all spend our time from now until Flash Day practicing to the same tempo, and all be in tune and on time when the big event happens.  And can you believe we'll be doing this less than one month from now???? Suggestions?

My advice to anyone who has recently learned the song & feels nervous about jumping into a jam -- practice the chord progression:
D-D-D-G
D-D-D-AD

I think the best thing anyone can do if the song starts sounding muddled or scrambled is to resort to the chord progression.  We have some super-talented musicians signed up for this thing so far... which isn't meant to initmidate.  Not at all... it's a strong foundation on which to rely to keep the song afloat if you get lost

I hope no one feels put off by this:  I'd like to kick it off on the fiddle.  Evil

I think the progression should go pretty quick from after the 1stx thru the A part.  ie - 2nd time thru add a guitar, mando, & banjo, then for the B part add 10 more people.
Vocals will kick in the 2nd time thru the B part.  at that point, everyone's in.

Que dicen, gente?

Since I will be handling a camera, I will be glad to lend my mando to a player that can handle:
D-D-D-G
D-D-D-AD

I see a you tube submission in the future...

This is gonna be so cool

You are in charge Erin, we will support your vision any way you see it goin down. This will be fun. I think the real key is to sound like one voice and one Mandolin, Banjo etc. We shall deliver!
Lets all work together to create one beautiful Angeline for Erin!!!! Thumbs Up Medal

*** CORRECTION****  I'm wrong above about when vocals kick in.
Let's play the song 1 time thru before adding vocals.

Otherwise, same rules.  I"ll start, 1x thru the A part.
2nd time thru add ~5 ( ie guitar, banjo, mando, djembe?)
B part 1 add ~10 (more guitars, mandos, recorders, et al.)
B part  2  - all in.

We'll all start the song from the top in a big lovin' jam,
and when we hit that B part again, vocals:
"Angeline the baker, lives on the village green....

Followed by
3x thru  2A & 2B

The vocals will end at the end of the 2nd A part on the last time thru.
Instrumental for the final 2 refrains of the B part.  Finish sharp  Wink

We'll be playing the whole song thru 5 times total.

Questions?  Thought?

P.S.  If you're confused, message me!    huh Thumbs Up
