Jailhouse Rock!

URL icon « Reply #332 on: December 28, 2009, 04:41:55 PM »

 Cheers
Well....thinking we are not going to do the eggs bene thing again this year. It was an awful lot of work for an awful lot of folks that are on vacation, not to mention the expense. It was fun to pull it off (thanks to all that helped!), but would have liked it to be more social, than a feed. But feeding 144, that was all it could and can be.
So.... Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up...the other part Ron and The Jailhouse started last year was the grub (appetizers) during the Home Brew. That went over very well and we ran out of food very early into it.
So... Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up...this year I would like to expand that part. Being noon and all, folks need the food to clean their pallet between the sampling of the great home brews.
So... Cheers Cheers Cheers Cheers.. Jailhouse is already planning on alot more of the pulled pork , maybe a ham or a country ham(with sauces and rolls), some bacon wrapped brauts and some summer black bean corn salsa. Leaning more toward the country ham. Got a great one from Paris, TN this year at Christmas that was to to die for! And have a great homemade HOT mustard to go with it.
Ron had some great stuff as well. Who can forget the great stuffed peppers!
So... Cheers Cheers...maybe start a thread for this one and make it more of a pot luck kind of thing , more social and easier for all!?
What ya think?

It could go back to Bloody Mary Morning. Let's wait and have Deb from Tucson chime in before we offer up anymore grup. She should have first say, ya think?

Jailhouse Rock!

Well... Thumbs Up...we could do a breakfast pot-luck at the Jailhouse on Wednesday with the BMM? And still do a Home Brew pot-luck on Tuesday, as well.
Depends on how many are willing to Jump In! Not going to do it all and the expense by myself again this year.
Cheers Wave Cheers Wave Cheers Wave Cheers Thumbs Up
Always willing to do more than my part for the Jailhouse and Wander-In to add to the Prefest Activities and love to see all the the TP folks enjoy what we all (Run-a-Muck, Tiki, Steamboat, Flamingo, Mash and all the other camps) do to make the Town Park experience what it is.
Cheers The Eggs Bene was a great teaming with the Bloody Mary's , so a brunch pot luck that day would be great. But, feel the appitizers on Tuesday is a great addition, looking at how fast the food went last year.
Thumbs Up Still need Ron to get the few bands in the competition to come and play at Wander-In again this year!

I'm still willing to do the Bloody's on Wed morning.although I always feel like it should be on Monday morning. I like the idea of a potluck breakfast.. I'll need help with the bloody's though since if we advertise the potluck- it will be a big thing again... I think we went through 30 gallons.

The only issue I see is that we'll end up with either a lot of egg dishes, or none, and how we'll keep it all warm (or cold).
I know Hooch will be bringing bacon. Wink
People can bring fruit too.
I can add this to the schedule once we figure out how we should tell people what to bring. Flower

Well, we've got 8 cans of sterno, but no warming trays- if someone has some of those, we could go that route- but I agree, Tom- and I hate cold eggs.

So- what if we set up a bunch of cooking stations in common areas near WanderIn/Jailhouse for things that should be hot and fresh- like eggs (cooked different ways) and pancakes and such, that can go straight from skillet/griddle to plate.  Keeping things that need to be held warm to a minimum.

Breakfast stuff ain't rocket science, so if each station had about two or three shifts of chefs, folks could eat-a-little and cook-a-little.  Whaddya think?  Cheers

I'll bring a waffle maker- we can plug into bathroom..LOL
We can make up little cups of batter a'la hotels - each can make their own..

I think Jailhouse purchased  warming trays that we can use last year.. But, honestly- doesnt have to be many eggs..

Bagels, sweet breads made at home before coming, BACON, sausage, fruit, apple cobbler type things made in dutch ovens, oatmeal w/ differnt toopings, granola, milk, juice, toast and jellies, bean burritos ,muffins made in the camp ovens etc

All these can easily be prepared in camps etc..

 Thumbs Up
I have two chafing dishes an can pick up another if needed. I have that great oven I got last year and judging from the response, there will be more of them in camp this year. Jailhouse also has plenty of burners to do come scrambled eggs on the spot.  Thumbs Up
We should be able to keep warm all that is needed. We do need a list of who is going to bring what, ao that all the breakfast goodies are covered. Wave
I can precook a couple of breakfast casseroles (eggs, cheese, ham and bread) or premake breakfast burrito's to reheat in the oven.  Cheers
I am also planning on ordering in a big country ham from Tennessee. That will be a treat for those who have never experienced it! LOL
Need fruit, baked goods, etc. like Deb said. Think Monday morning is perfect.
