Someone was looking for these lyrics a while back.  Hope you're still around to see them.

Howlin’ at the Moon
Jim Ratts/John McEuen

Take a little time for sunshine
Take a whole lot of time for love
Take time to praise and thank heaven up above
Take your life as it may come
'Cause boy, it'll be gone soon
Take a little time for howlin' at the moon

Somebody said Keep your eyes open
Gotta keep your feet on solid ground
You gotta take time to take a real good look at everything you've found
Take your life as it may come
'Cause boy, it'll be gone soon
Take a little time for howlin' at the moon

Take a little time for sunshine
Take a whole lot of time for love
Take time to praise and thank heaven up above
Gotta make music, raise your voice with joy every day
You got a lot to live for, you got a lifetime to stay

And so I tried to keep my eyes open
Tried to live my life from day to day
But it seemed that life's unhappiness kept leading me astray
Then I saw a friend go down hard
It made me sing a different tune
Made me take a little time for howlin' at the moon

Good Work GrassMaster
I had to applaud that one

and a recommendation for this years songbook:

 Friend Of The Devil

Lyrics: Robert Hunter
Music: Jerry Garcia, John Dawson

I lit out from Reno, I was trailed by twenty hounds
Didn't get to sleep that night till the morning came around

    Chorus
Set out running but I take my time
A friend of the devil is a friend of mine
If I get home before daylight I just might get some sleep
    Tonight

I ran into the devil babe, he loaned me twenty bills
I spent the night in Utah in a cave up in the hills

    [chorus]

I ran down to the levee but the devil caught me there
He took my twenty dollar bill and vanished in the air

    [chorus]

Got two reasons why I cry away each lonely night
The first one's named sweet Anne Marie and she's my heart's delight
Second one is prison baby, sheriff's on my trail (note c)
And if he catches up with me I'll spend my life in jail

Got a wife in Chino babe, and one in Cherokee
First one says she's got my child but it don't look like me

    [chorus]

Last year I brought all the song books and gave them out along the Goddess Walk About - otherwise known as the Chick Parade (insert little chick icon here   - Tom?).
Woo hoo :hop Butterfly Flyer Flyer Flyer Flyer Flyer

Anyway, this year if you would like a songbook - come by Camp Get Enough.  It's a scavenger hunt, if you can find me, you can have a book (as long as supplies last).

If musicians want chords, musicians can sent me the music with chords, otherwise I'll just add the new songs to the list and take out the one with type-o's for Hurricane Michelle. - if I remember.

Counting the days....

..for whomever had requested the Crooked Still version of Angeline the Baker ....

ANGELINE THE BAKER
(as performed by Crooked Still)

Angeline the baker, lives on the village green
The way I’d always loved her, beats all you’ve ever seen
Angeline the baker, Angeline I knew
Should have married Angeline, just 20 years ago

(chorus)
Angeline the baker, age of 43
Fed her sugared candy and she still won’t marry me
Angeline the baker, Angeline I knew
Should have married Angeline, just 20 years ago

Her father was a baker, his name was Uncle Sam
I never shall forget her, no matter where I am
She said she can’t do hard work, because she is not stout
She bakes the biscuits every day, and pour the coffee out

(Chorus)

I bought Angeline a brand new dress, was neither black nor brown
It was the color of a stormy sky, before the rain came down
16 horses in my pack, leader he was blind,
I imagined I was dyin’, and saw my Angeline

(Chorus X 2)

Don't Fence Me In
Words and music by Cole Porter© & Robert Fletcher,
©1942, from the film Hollywood Canteen*

[C]Wildcat [F]Kelly looking [C]mighty pale,
Was standing by the sheriff's [G7]side
And [C]when the [F]sheriff said "I'm [C]sending you to
jail, "
[G7]Wildcat raised his head and [C]cried:
-------------
Chorus:
[C]Oh [G7]give me [C]land, lots of [Am]land
Under [C]starry skies a[Am]bove.
[C]Don't [F]Fence Me [G]In.
Let me [G]ride through the [G7]wide open
[G]Country that I [G7]love.
[G]Don't [G7]Fence Me [C]In.
Let me [C]be by myself in the evening [C7]breeze,
[F]Listen to the murmur of the cottonwood [Dm7]trees.
[C]Send me off for[C7]ever,
but I ask [F]you, [C7]please[F],
[C]Don't [G7]Fence Me [C]In.

[C7]Just turn me [F]loose, let me straddle my old
saddle
Underneath the western [C]skies.
[C7]On my [F]cayuse let me wander over yonder
Till I see the mountains [C]rise.
[G]I [G7]want to [C]ride to the ridge
where the west com[C7]mences,
[F]Gaze at the moon until I lose my [Dm7]senses.
[C]Can't look at [C7]hobbles
and I can't [F]stand [C7]fen[F]ces.
[C]Don't [G7]Fence Me [C]In.
--------------
Wild cat Kelly back again in town,
was sitting by his sweetheart's side,
And when his sweetheart said,
"Come on let's settle down."
Wild Cat raised his head and cried:

-----------------------

*Cole Porter was credited with sole authorship when
the song was published, but he had essentially
re-worked a poem written earlier by Robert Fletcher.
Fletcher,
who worked for the Dept. of Highways in Helena, MT, is
the one who wrote the "roadside history" placques that
were seen along the state's highways until the
1980s.  Fletcher sold the poem/song to Porter for a
small sum when Porter was asked to write a cowboy song
for the film.   Porter wanted to give Fletcher
co-authorship credit, but his publishers would not
allow that.  Later, after the song got so popular,
Fletcher hired legal advice and his attorneys
negotiated his
being given proper co-authorship credit in subsequent
publications.

Having the chance to see the very first what in tarnation incarnation of the the original O'boys at the Boulder Theatre which produced ODD MAN IN or at least was the first chance live that played to the Disc, reflectively brings back some mighty fine memories. The crowd was jolly, the band was enormous and the evening seemed to go on for ever and ever. Truly magical in it's self. An evening never to forget. I'll always remember the gracefulness of the dancers that evening and Tim wondering if anyone would dance to the new band. Well, duh!

This one always brings a tear to the eye or at least a goosey bump on the skin whenever Tim lets loose on this one. There is nothing like looking into Kit's eyes when he sings this one to her everytime wherever she may be. Again, if you are without this disc, ODD MAN IN, you are seriously missing out and it is highly recommended that you procur this mighty fine disc.

Like I Used To Do

Like I Used To Do

©1990 Tim O’Brien and Pat Alger

There was a time when we’d be the last to leave
Watching the sun come up while everyone fell asleep
The music was always loud and I’d smoke and drink too much
Until I’d fall in your arms and into your lovin’ touch
Now as the years roll by, time has reeled me in
I’ve slowed down a notch or two from the way things were then

Those old ways of mine, I’ve left them behind
Those crazy days are through
The only thing I still do like I used to do
Is carry this torch for you

Remember the days when we’d pack our bags and run
Chasing a crazy dream into the morning sun
Now as the twilight falls, I find I’m satisfied
Watching the fire glow as long as you’re by my side
Here in my heart it seems, time has passed me by
I love you as much today as the very first time

Those old ways of mine, I’ve left them behind
Those crazy days are through
The only thing I still do like I used to do
Is carry this torch for you

I still want you the way I wanted you then
If I could do it all over, I’d do it all over again

Those old ways of mine, I’ve left them behind
Those crazy days are through
The only thing I still do like I used to do
Is carry this torch for you

Lovely, truly a lovely tune...

Always reminds me of my Dad's passing on Christmas Day, long time now.

Warm, salty, Sweet and Savory all at the same time.

Time To Learn
From Oh Boy! O'Boy!
(Tim O'Brien, Pat Alger (Howdy Skies Music, ASCAP/Bait and Beer Music, Forerunner Music, Inc., ASCAP))

Time To Learn

The hand is cold that once held mine

I can’t believe you’ve really left this world behind

I can wait and I can hope I’ll get over this in time

It takes time to learn when someone’s gone for good

They’re not comin’ back like you wish they would

In the empty hours when you miss them so

Then it’s time to learn to let them go

Your last hours we never knew

We never had a chance to say goodbye to you

Words unsaid and things undone

We’d just begun and now we’ll never see them through

It takes time to learn when someone’s gone for good

They’re not comin’ back like you wish they would

In the empty hours when you miss them so

It takes time to learn to let them go

It takes time to learn that you’re gone for good

You’re not comin’ back like I wish you would

In the empty hours when I miss you so

Then it’s time to learn to let you go

The    hand   is    cold    that     once     held     mine
