Ride from Vegas to the TBF?

Hi everyone,

I still cannot believe that i get to come back to this magical place. Im going to fly into LA and make my way to Telluride.,  via Vegas. Will post on the rides section but wanted to give a shout out here because, well frankly, it feels like asking my friends and family. If there are any friendly folk driving to Telluride via Vegas, im very happy to pay for gas, snacks etc in exchange for a ride.

Still no takers? Am willing to relocate somewhere closer to a ride......it is super tricky and exoensive to get from Vegas to Telluride without a car. Let me know if you are somewhere on a flight or bus route nearby and are looking for a cheerful passenger with not much luggage, thanks

Hey Billy, yes i have posted in Hitching a ride and vegas to montrose is definitely the back up plan but....its really expensive, there are only 1-2 direct flights a week and most options involve maybe a six hour commute. Plus, and dont take this the wrong way ....if i can do ANYTHING to avoid your airports i will...sorry but airports in the US are possibly the hardest to enjoy in the world.....sorry. I love the country and the people but the way you get treated as a non US citizen at the airport is pretty grim. Hence a road trip is definitely the preference if possible. Besides, it means i get to see more of the country if i come by car.

Am not worried, i know i will get there!

Hello Australian Fan!  I live in Salt Lake City and would be absolutely delighted if you wanted to hitch a ride from SLC to Telluride!  I am sure there is a direct bus from Vegas to Salt Lake and I would be happy to pick you up from the bus stop and even offer you housing in SLC if you need it!

Maybe you have to ask yourself the question is your goal to get to Telluride the cheapest possible or to have the most fun possible on the way. If it's the latter you should fly into Minneapolis instead of Vegas, catch a bus to Eau Claire the Thursday before tbf and get to see Sam Bush, Leftover Salmon, Greensky Bluegrass and others two weeks in a row and see what the middle of America looks like on the way to Telluride!

Now that is a really interesting idea, love the idea of seeing my Greensky boys the week before........except i just looked and it is an 18 hour drive from Minneapolis to Telluride. I have to weigh up recovering from a 16 hour flight in economy ( which is a killer) combined with another long flight to Mn then a long road trip - all before i start the craziness of TBF. Dont get me wrong, i might be up for it but i will keep checking ootions. I only have 12 days leave and it is such a loooooong way from Australia, i will have to be in a fit state for work when i get home as well. But man, i like your thinking! Thanks x

Saw 5 runs of shows in Vegas last year and currently have two runs coming up (Phil in a couple of weeks & SCI in March).   It's definitely further than Denver -> Telluride, but at about 9.5 hours (if you don't dawdle) - it's very doable in the same day without being totally burnt.

I normally go from Ophir/Telluride -> Kayenta, AZ and then either turn north about 30 miles (west of Kayenta) up to Lake Powell, or continue on to Tuba City -> Flagstaff -> Kingman -> Vegas.   Then typically return the other way to complete a mini loop.  I'd say the Lake Powell route is a more scenic ... and even much more so if you opt to pass through Zion National Park.  It'd add an additional 45 minutes at a minimum (if you don't stop), but definitely worth it if you have the time.
