Has John Butler Trio or Xavier Rudd ever came to Telluride?? I know JBT was at Folk Fest last year or whenever, and I know either of them would be great here! Great musicians and performers! Give the Aussies some love!

Xavier played in 2004 (I missed that year)
John Butler Trio played in 2005 (I was there - very sweet set).

BC, continuing the Australian artist theme, do you know The Waifs? They played TBF in 2003 and I thought that set (along with their Fly Me to the Moon nightgrass show) was killer. I also saw The Waifs play at the 2010 Folks Fest.

Those girls are so awesome (and then some).  Dr. Love

I will have to check back in the archives before suggesting! But either way since it's been almost 10 years since either has played: meaning new songs, lineups, old classics, and progression in music I know they would put on an amazing show! And I have not heard of The Waifs? I will have to check them out though, thanks for the suggestion!

The Dusters are playing the Palisade Bluegrass festival in the Grand Junction area on June 14. Hopefully that scheduling bodes well for them to play TBF the following week  Thumbs Up Cheers

CRB!!!

I would love to see the Chris Robinson Brotherhood (CRB) play at TBF. They just announced a new album and tour...that brings them to Snowmass (Aspen) a few days before TBF begins. I would endorse this.

See you in a few months!

Well alrighty! I'll ask them when I see them next week in Telluride. I know they love coming to Telluride as much as we love them being there.

And as far as and Old and In the Way (minus Jerry), well it would be minus John, minus Vassar........ you get the picture. That's the album that got me started on bluegrass, and NGR is the band I saw live that got me hooked in 76.

Not a "new" act, per se, and I've probably begged for this before on here, but I just saw that Ray LaMontagne has new music coming out.  He hasn't toured in forever, but if he plays anywhere this summer, he should come to Telluride. Just sayin'!

Here's is a link to an interesting and rather sad story in the New York Times magazine about Tony Rice.  It sounds unlikely that we'll ever have the privilege of seeing Tony on the Telluride stage again, so that started me thinking about who could come close to playing the kind of swing music that was a hallmark of Tony's style with  Grisman and others.  Bryan Sutton immediately came to mind.  He can play it, and he did such a masterful job in the Elks Park tribute to Doc Watson a couple years ago.  I'd love to hear more from Bryan in general, and he could front a band that plays in the Tony and Django style.  What a fine fit for the Saturday dinner hour.  Let's see ... who could Bryan get on mandolin, bass, and fiddle to round out a quartet?
