it's about the tradition of bluegrass.

I thought we'd covered this before....that's Rockygrass you're thinking about.   TBF is about whatever Craig decides it's about in a given year   LOL

This festival isn't about getting the biggest crowd or having the lineup everyone is talking about----although a lot of years they do----it's about the tradition of bluegrass.

I guess everyone has a different answer as to what the festival is "about"; however, PB is a business - believe it or not - and the presence of Phish on a 40th anniversary DVD would generate lots of additional revenue.

If that's how you like to think of it then sure I guess.  I love this festival because I feel like it isn't about the bottom line and they love the idea of tradition.

Just excited I get to go year after year and that they have tried to keep it the intimate festival it is and has been while still growing.

i don't believe the phish rumor but lets not forget phish has a history with tride and gordo played the festy with leo kottke back in 2005 so its definitely on their radar. what if gordo called craig and was like, hey we want to do a acoustic set at the festy this year. do you really think he would turn them down?

It's not that I like to think about it this way, nor do I view it as a "be all end all" explanation, it's just a card in the deck as to why it could be Phish (among other reasons).   Personally, I'd prefer Futhur & would also love it if it were the Doobie Brothers!!  Cheers

... saw the DB for the first time at a casino in Reno on the way to SF for NYE a few years ago and thought it was an excellent show ... never realized Tommy Johnston was a "type A" personality.

What two states legalized marijuana?
Check Pollstar and see where they're playing June 23rd.
They could play either Thursday or Friday before flying out.
You never know.
And no, there is no birdie in my ear. LOL

I'm thinking no.   Lots of folks on the Planet were involved in the Phish Telluride gigs in '11, and from all I heard, I can't imagine they would unleash that on us.   It has nothing to do with the music.  The fact is that regardless of how difficult it is to get to Telluride, and how few tickets there would be for the horde, the touring horde would pour into town in parallel with the usual Festivarian crowd.

Infrastructure would burst at the seams, security would be a flipping nightmare, and I don't want to be the poor guy patrolling fencelines after dark, or repairing fence damage in the morning.   And it doesn't make business sense to me.  They'd be expensive, and with the festival already selling out, there's no additional income in it for the Planet, is there?

I'm going to be a naysayer until proven otherwise....I'll even call the whole idea trollbait.

this is really funny. phish telluride in 2010 (which was the year, btw) telluride was a ghost town compared to bluegrass. way more mellow, and the "touring hordes" never showed up. either way though, it aint phish.

though mike g played a great set with leo kotke in 2005 bluegrass.

Tom- Ya know , I was just thinking about that... Johnny C needs to be back and I thought I had hears that is why he missed the last few  years. I don't keep up as closely with the bands like most of you do so I was afraid to state it out loud.

Oh my God, Doobie Brothers would be amazing.  Yet another band that I've listened to since birth but never got to see.  Fingers and toes crossed that you're right, Tom!

I wouldn't mind the Doobie Brothers showing up. I saw them in 2009 at the Gorge when the split the bill with the Alman Brothers and The Dead and they were fantastic. They put on a good show and would be a fun addition, but mostly I just want to make sure John Cowan is at the 40th.
