Brewers - I just brewed up a batch of the "White House Honey Ale" that Obama was seen drinking on his campaign bus.  It's REALLY good.  So good that I may try the White House Honey Porter recipe soon.

Here's the recipe for Honey Ale:

White House Honey Ale
Ingredients
·   2 (3.3 lb) cans light malt extract
·   1 lb light dried malt extract
·   12 oz crushed amber crystal malt
·   8 oz Biscuit Malt
·   1 lb White House Honey
·   1 1/2 oz Kent Goldings Hop Pellets
·   1 1/2 oz Fuggles Hop pellets
·   2 tsp gypsum
·   1 pkg Windsor dry ale yeast
·   3/4 cup corn sugar for priming
Directions
1.   In an 12 qt pot, steep the grains in a hop bag in 1 1/2 gallons of sterile water at 155 degrees for half an hour. Remove the grains.
2.   Add the 2 cans of the malt extract and the dried extract and bring to a boil.
3.   For the first flavoring, add the 1 1/2 oz Kent Goldings and 2 tsp of gypsum. Boil for 45 minutes.
4.   For the second flavoring, add the 1/2 oz Fuggles hop pellets at the last minute of the boil.
5.   Add the honey and boil for 5 more minutes.
6.   Add 2 gallons chilled sterile water into the primary fermenter and add the hot wort into it. Top with more water to total 5 gallons. There is no need to strain.
7.   Pitch yeast when wort temperature is between 70-80˚. Fill airlock halfway with water.
8.   Ferment at 68-72˚ for about seven days.
9.   Rack to a secondary fermenter after five days and ferment for 14 more days.
10.   To bottle, dissolve the corn sugar into 2 pints of boiling water for 15 minutes. Pour the mixture into an empty bottling bucket. Siphon the beer from the fermenter over it. Distribute priming sugar evenly. Siphon into bottles and cap. Let sit for 2 to 3 weeks at 75˚.

I signed the Petition to get this published!!! Right at the same site that I signed a Petition to allow Texas to secede from the Union, and annex Austin back into the U.S.

Well, since I kind of got this going for this year.  I am willing to help out any way I can, where ever we decide to meet.
I think a keg system would be great. My neighbors at Rockygrass last year had 4 kegs. It was fantastic!   Cheers
The batch I just brewed up was kind of simple compared to CompleteJohn's, that sounds really good by the way.
But like usual, mine is an experiment.
 6lb light dry malt (Mutons)
 1lb Crystal malt 80lvb
 1lb light clover honey
3 1/2oz hops  I have no idea what they are. They all grew together on one fence, and the guy that planted them 40 years ago is past on.
I think I picked 3 different kinds, but I'm not sure. All I know is they smell wonderful!
 White Labs, Pilsner yeast.
 Irish Moss

I steeped the crystal just until wort had a nice beep red color, about 30-35min
Added all the malt, honey, and 1oz hops, brought to a good boil
after 30 min I added 1 1/2oz hops for flavoring
in last 10min or so I thru in the other 1oz of hops, and Irish Moss
I am doing a two stage fermentation at about 45-50f

Thumbs Up Nice! The Northern Brewer is right next door to my office here in Mpls.

So of course, I'm on the bandwagon and brewed for the first time last week. Bought the NB EPA kit but used Cascades that we grew @ the farm in Wisc. So excited to see how it turns out!  Cheers

I'd love to have a trade/tasting with fellow home brewers.  I've been to the Home Brewer's conferences and had an amazing time there; but I cannot think of anything better than meshing this brew fetish with music lovers.  Oh yeah..I'm a "festivirgin," did I say it right? LOL

I plan on brewing a lager and a Basil Saison and maybe finally bottling up the mead I've had sitting around for a bit.

Completely agree with you HuckinFappy!! Cheers But all is not lost! Thumbs Up I have some mead already set aside. It will be 4 1/2 years old by TBF.  It was great last year, should be fantastic this year.

Haha, based on the reaction so far, maybe sitting on it a little longer...

On another note has any festivarian/hombrewer used P.E.T. bottles with any success?  At least pertaining to the campgrounds that do not allow glass?  I'm staying in Warner.

Now i don't have a vested interest here, since I don't even drink anymore.   But as a man who used to show up with a couple hundred gallons of homebrew, I'll say "don't do it!!!"

Seriously....just make the investment into a soda keg setup, and take your beer anywhere you want.

Did all the home brewer's get their tickets?  Are we still looking for a place to have a meet and trade?

I got mine.  I'll be bringing a variety of brews so hopefully something quasi-organized is happening.
