Hey guys what's the bug situation typically like at TBF? Coming from the mosquito-infested Southeast, I'm just wondering whether to bring tons of repellent.
If you are coming from the southeast then you may find the lack of humidity disturbing.

It is wonderful to have a break from the Ohio Valley humidity, BUT the lack of moisture takes its toll on someone who's not used to it. Like Tom said, you definitely want something for your feet. And I always bring some saline solution for my sinuses... the dry air kills my sinuses!  EEK!

Only 5 more days until I hit the road!  Driving  :hop

How does the tarp run work/What are the best options? Should I plan on being in line all night? Thank you in advance for any advice!

They hand out numbers (printed on paper) at some point very very early morning to the people in line.  If you are asleep when they come by, they shave off one of your eyebrows.  Then you take your number and your tarp and, in an orderly fashion, enter the festival grounds where you run your happy ass off, throw down the tarp, then barf maybe.  Then buy a beer.  Sleeping in line all night is optional based on your desire for a specific spot and level of dedication to your festivation.  Some people are in line during the day the day before the next day...which sounds confusing.  There's a lot more to it, but that's basically it.

Hola Festivarians!!  Wave
Can anybody tell me whether there will be wagons, carts or anything at the drop off location in Town Park to help get gear to chosen campsite? Or will we huff and puff our gear by hand? Or would a collapsible luggage dolly be a good idea? (Snap down gear boxes with food, water, beer, etc)
Arriving Monday mid-day.

Thanks

Some campers have them and are usually happy to let others borrow. Just depends when you show up, you may have to wait.  Rolleyes  Once the bigger camps have loaded in, you can usually borrow one.

I thought about getting an extra for our camp also, but couldn't justify it this year with all my other new gear.
 Cheers

Thanks for that answer. I'll pack my little collapsible luggage dolly and keep it in SUV if not needed.  Thumbs Up

Hey Sparky, sorry I didn't catch that you said Monday midday. Pretty sure you won't have any trouble using someone's cart. Also try to get here around noon so we can put a Bloody Mary in your festive hands!! We'll be setup by the bathhouse in the main section of the campground, 10-1ish!  Thumbs Up

That is awesome, and you can bet I will try to get there early enough to partake. I usually find negotiating space and setting up camp much more effective with Bloody Mary first!!
Thanks for the info and we'll look for you on Monday.

Personally I'm looking forward to a lack of humidity, lack of heat, lack of mosquitos and ticks, and I find the lack of oxygen has never bothered me ( just means less beer I got to drink).

Equal amounts beer and water (not at the same time) does make for a few more trips to the portas but probably will save wicked altitude headaches. Just sayin.  Cheers

Hey all, we missed land rush last year and I can't find how that all works in this thread.  I know it's a 9am but that's about it.  Where exactly (a dot on a map would be super helpful) and how does it go down?  When should we show up?  How does the shuffle of cars go after tents are placed, etc?  Thanks!

Just use the search feature. Many topics have multiple threads. Here is a previous thread about Landrush  Flower

http://www.festivarian.com/index.php/topic,7319.msg50821.html#msg50821

Here is the Cliff notes: Saturday at 8am Planet Bluegrass takes control of Town Park. This is when the Bear Creek Preserve opens. The main part of the campground is already open. People will line up at both entrances, no numbers like the tarp line. It is much more gentlemanly than the tarp run also.   The only friction you may experience is if you throw down a tarp right where one of the big traditional camps normally set up their big shelters. These are the places where all the pre fest fun happens, and they are very limited to where they will fit. Just talk with those around you and they will give you good advice. Once the initial activity of securing a spot with your tarp, you'll get you car in line to drop off your gear, and then instructed where to park. It's pretty orderly, plenty of volunteers directing traffic in and out of TP.

Hope that helps - getting close now!!
 Cheers

Thank you - I was on mobile last night and was having a hard time with search!

I tried searching around just now and can't tell exactly where the two ends of Bear Creek Preserve are.  Can somebody help me out with that please?  Also, in searching around I've seen both 8am and 9am.  Which is correct?

Besides the river, where can we fill our water jugs?  I think I read in some very old posts there are sinks behind the bath house...is that correct?  Are there any other locations out in TP/Bear Creek camping area?
