Hey guys what's the bug situation typically like at TBF? Coming from the mosquito-infested Southeast, I'm just wondering whether to bring tons of repellent.

Naw, hardly ever get bit by one of those evil critters. Evil  This year may have a little more water, but even then, nothing like the southeast! In town park campground or the venue, I don't think I've I've seen one. Skip the bug spray and bring good sun screen!  Thumbs Up  The sun at 8700' is brutal!!  :burn

Bugs are not a problem. The biggest problem is the dust that gets into just about everything, including your lungs.

Wearing sandals in the extremely dry air often leads to cracked heels. Swearing

Be sure to have some Bag Balm, Burt's Bee's, or Vaseline handy to keep them moist and keep them from bleeding. Thumbs Up

Other than during thunderstorms, the normal humidity is around 10-20%.

If you are coming from anywhere not at elevation then you might find the lack of oxygen disturbing.
Many artists have oxygen tanks on stage, I remember Johnny Cash spending most of the time he wasn't singing was sucking up some.

Personally I'm looking forward to a lack of humidity, lack of heat, lack of mosquitos and ticks, and I find the lack of oxygen has never bothered me ( just means less beer I got to drink).

Highs in 70s with low humidity, never seen a tick or mosquito around the campsite, bluegrass all day and night...this place you call Telluride sounds pretty sweet.

I know I have seen Tom's link in here before but cannot seem to put my chubby little finger on it right now. Is there a map of TP, so I can reference the camping areas I see mentioned on this page. My Festival hat is off to you guys who provide us Newbies with all these answers!!

Do keep in mind that while the temperature doesn't look like it gets too hot, it certainly feels that way. At 9,000 feet, you're much closer to the sun and when you're sitting on that field all day, you feel every one of those 70 to 80 degrees and several more. Be prepared for the heat with a hat and lots of water. Maybe even a mister or water gun.

Thanks for that reminder. I am planning to bring hats of many colors and lotsa lotion. Driving from Texas and back. Best road trip of the summer!!!

It is wonderful to have a break from the Ohio Valley humidity, BUT the lack of moisture takes its toll on someone who's not used to it. Like Tom said, you definitely want something for your feet. And I always bring some saline solution for my sinuses... the dry air kills my sinuses!  EEK!

Only 5 more days until I hit the road!  Driving  :hop
