The full 2011 NightGrass schedule will be going up on the website shortly, but I wanted to post it here first...

We had so many amazing bands this year we decided to add an additional venue.  So in addition to the Sheridan, Moon, and Conference Center, we'll be presenting three shows in the gorgeous, state-of-the-art Palm Theater inside Telluride High School.

View the full schedule here:
   http://www.bluegrass.com/telluride/nightgrass.html

Wednesday, June 15
10th Annual Yonder Mountain String Band Kick-Off Party @ Telluride Conference Center

Thursday, June 16
Railroad Earth @ Sheridan Opera House
Cornmeal @ Fly Me to the Moon Saloon
Trampled by Turtles w/ Joe Pug @ Palm Theater

Friday, June 17
Yonder Mountain String Band @ Sheridan
Head for the Hills @ Fly Me to the Moon Saloon
The Head and the Heart & Matthew and the Atlas @ Palm Theater

Saturday, June 18
Mumford & Sons w/ Abigail Washburn @ Sheridan
Infamous Stringdusters @ Fly Me to the Moon Saloon
Emmitt-Nershi Band @ Palm Theater

Sunday, June 19
Punch Brothers @ Sheridan

Also new this year: we'll be using an online lottery for both the Sheridan and the Moon (the 2 most intimate venues).  That lottery will be held this Thursday, April 21 from 12:01am to 11:59pm MDT.  All other NightGrass tickets will go onsale next Tuesday, April 26 at 9am MDT online-only at shop.bluegrass.com.

huh... lottery for the stringdusters show Blush
i've haven't won any type of planet bluegrass lottery up to this point, and i've entered many...
so hopefully this means the odds are on my side for the fly me to the moon dusters show Geek

...i hope

i do applaud the fact that the lottery is only happening on one day...  thats a pretty fair way of holding a lottery, as opposed to having it open for a week or so... Cheers

This lemur ain't laughing, but I guess I can't complain, either.  I just can't believe RRE, Cornmeal, and Trampled are all at the same time.  I was hoping they would be on consecutive nights.  So, it sounds like it's going to be a matter of being lucky enough to see one of them.

I would guess I can try for all three and if I get more than one I can flow the other(s) to a friend...

Thanks to a special event liquor license, the Palm Theater will be selling alcohol at these NightGrass shows.

The Palm has been around for at least 5-7 years (??).  I've seen a couple events there, but never any music; however, my suspicion is that it's probably the best venue on the list in terms of both acoustics & just the "nice factor" ... and that was designed as a performing arts facility from the get go.

While I'm super psyched to see it being utilized and not sitting empty, I should note that was a very contentious topic when the facility was being designed ... in particular the height of the fly-tower went well above what was allowable by the land use code, thus setting a precedent to push the limits for other projects which might be lurking down the pipelines.  Granted we haven't seen it used as a precedent yet, but the potential is still there.  There was also an issue with consistency re: alcohol ... if I recall correctly, there is a SUP process (not sure if Planet Bluegrass will seek to invoke this?) to allow the serving of alcohol for events.  I believe the controversy (or 'double standard') stems from a prior decision which rejected Hotel Telluride's application for a licqour license due to it's proximity to the school.

Moreover, I'm not convinced it's inception in it's current form wasn't a product of a smokey back room deal involving the Film Festival in one way or another.

Again, while I'm not fan of the particulars (noted above), I am thrilled to see that another huge building isn't standing vacant when it could be used for something ... especially that of music in a positive way which will reduce the load on other venues and hopefully make TBF an even more viable operation.  I think people will give The Palm very high marks!

Not looking to make this into an issue, the controversy was long over, but more of a background (and my perspective) on this ... and also just to air some general comments why you might see a new big building pop up here or there from year to year.  Sometimes it hits home ... as in literally in the case of the ice rink, but other times there's more of a subtle slipperly slope involved & I've scene many faces in the poser pit who keep the hose on the slip-in-slide going 24x7, they take turns at that position!!!

Holy loaded Thursday, Batman!

Yeah, not only are there a number of competing nightgrass acts on Thursday, it's also the House Band closing ... which adds a bit to the synchronisity of the equation.

I posted this on one other "other" nightgrass threads - - -

But, are tickets for the lottery "hard" tickets that are mailed?  "E-Mail" tickets?  Will call?

This is important as I travel a bit for work and if they are mailed, will need to make arrangements.

Thank you, planet.

On the lottery application, you will have your choice of whether to have your lottery tickets all mailed or all held at will-call.

Holy loaded Thursday, Batman!

ya thursday's rough...but what a start! can anyone share how the lotto works? Do we apply for dates, venues, or individual events? Or is it an instant runnoff/ranking type thing? Do you put in multiple apps, and if so is there a limit on both applications and tickets?

BTW, $35 for the "headliner" types?! jimminy crickets!! I'm guessing that doesnt count at least $10 in fees also?

Full details about the lottery are here:
   http://www.bluegrass.com/telluride/lottery-nightgrass/

But basically... for each of the 7 shows in the lottery (Moon and Sheridan shows) you can select 0, 1, or 2 tickets.  As we process each show, we randomly choose lottery entries and begin filling ticket requests until that show is sold-out.  We re-randomize the entries for each show, so your chances are equal for each show.

There is a strict limit of 1 entry per person and 2 entries per household.

As always, we charge absolutely no service fees on any tickets.  So the $20-35 price is the final price you pay for each ticket.
