I've never been to TBF but have always dreamed of it.

This year we have booked our flights from Australia and made travel plans to get to Telluride.  We can't bring our camping gear so have opted for accommodation.

Unfortunatley during this whole process, the tickets sold out.  I only needed the FRI-SUN day tickets as we are forced to use thursday as a travel day flying into Montrose.

With tickets sold out, what are my chances of still getting two 4 day passes, or individual day tickets?

So far I've posted on the ticket exchange, but I also read that some refunded tickets become available.

What are my chances of getting tickets?
Should I cancel my flights and pay the penalty?

any help is appreciated for this newbie from OZ.

cheers, jason

Keep an eye out the ticket exchange board on this forum. Remember that planet bluegrass releases returned tickets ever tuesday for sale. Always remember it is unfair to pay more than face value for a ticket, in short, simply not the Festivarian way. Be patient and vigilant and your arrival in Telluride will be assured.

Thanks for the encouragement Hippie.  I will stay tuned to the exchange board and hopefully have some luck.  I just find it hard to imagine somone returning tickets to such a great festival.

Trixiemt75,  thanks for the offer.  It things end up going that way we'll let you know.  I hear the campgrounds are good fun and they are the usual way I like to attend a festival.

I'd say the chances are pretty good.  The are always 4-day passes posted for sale on the boards by the entrance.  Might have to pay for camping too even tho you dont need it.  Coming in later, you may want to have someone checking for you earlier.

meanderingjeeper, do you mean at the entrance to the festival? Are you suggesting just showing up in Telluride before the festival is a good way to get tickets or are you refering to the message boards. Me and my girlfriend really want to go and will do anything we need to get tickets.

Yeah, I was referring to the board out front of the ticket booth at the entrance to the festival.  There are always tickets posted there for sale (have a cell), along with people looking for rides, etc.  Used to be the guy with the bird on a mouse on a cat on a dog there too.  Wonder what happened to him.

There's something happinin' here, What it is ain't exactly clear...
~ Buffalo Springfield

Jason, you and your lady have reservations for lodging. You will, no matter what, be allowed past the Town barrier during fest. Having said that.....

Let me be the voice of reason here for just a minute or two.

I have just read about merchant passes selling out in one and a half hours last Friday. That in itself is epic... no.. EPIC!

Should ANYONE decide that they are going to be in Telluride during the fest and try and pick up tickets, that person and everyone in their party should prepare for the fact that tickets might not be available AT ALL.

For those that DO NOT HAVE Festi-Passes, Camping Passes, lodging, or work in Mountain Village or the Town of Telluride, you and your group are taking a big chance on the thought that you *might* be able to purchase tickets once you get to town.

Tickets are not really shaking loose this year, as they have done in the past. Any and all forms of ticket sales have SOLD OUT at record paces this year.

Looking at this from another aspect... there is limited space/parking/room in general between the Town of Telluride and Mountain Village. This is NOT a major fest in terms of size and attendance allowed. This is not a "Roo or Waka type event.

If you are headed up the mountain on a wing and a prayer, you just might want to think twice about it this year.

At the risk of repeating myself.....

If you are headed up the mountain on a wing and a prayer, you just might want to think twice about it this year.

Thanks for the advice Auntie Hope.

We are planning to have our tickets sorted before we arrive... one way or another.

I dare say we will be coming further than anyone else (2days, 5 flights and a bus) and would not be able to deal with being shut out at the gate.

still looking for extras........who's got'em?  :)

Cheers,
Jason and Phoebe

Don't forget to check the Planet Bluegrass Returned Ticket Resale page on Tuesdays at noon Mountain Daylight Time. (what time that would be in Australia, I don't know)  Tickets can be returned to PB before May 6.
Be logged in before noon and then see if anything pops up.  If tickets are available, don't hesitate - they will probably be gone in seconds.

Rubysue,
Yep, spent 2 hours in the middle of the night (4am Wednesday Australia time) to be ready for the tuesday returned ticket release.... but there was nothing returned.
I think people are going straight to ebay where they can make a quick fortune.  But I would prefer not to support that scene, it just feels dirty.

the hunt continues.....

Just a friendly reminder that it is really not the Festivarian way to buy or sell tickets for more than face value. I always offer face + postage to any sellers trying to make a profit.

Those trying to sell on Craigs list for a profit can be flagged, if enough people flag a post it will be removed.

Keep in mind that even if you don't get festival tickets, there are free workshops every day with some of the headliners, some of the new folks, guest artists, and the music is always great! Sometimes I wish there were some breaks at the festival just so I could go to the workshops and not miss any of the music!
You won't be disappointed. You can even sit down by the river and hear the music, or you can walk up Tomboy Road and see AND hear just great! Don't sweat it; it all works out the way it's supposed to.
