I'm pretty jazzed up, I've driven through Telluride a number of times but haven't had a chance to stay. Going to be hitting 2 days of the Bluegrass fest for my birthday this year. Got the concert tickets but the camping tickets are long gone. I'm keeping an eye out for resales but ... with the good chance of not finding camping tickets (need for Fri 17th/Sat 18th if anyone wanting to sell sees this) I'm looking for alternatives.

We don't really need a full campslot. Our tent mounts on top of our car (see below for an example of our setup, not my actual car) so we can sleep in it without taking up much more than a single parking slot. Any chance there are sleep-in friendly parking areas near the concert venue? I don't mind popping the tent in a parking spot, I just don't want locals or fuzz getting upset about it. Due to the tent-on-car we'd -prefer- to not need to camp too far away, so we don't have to tear down to drive in, but if we have to we can go to one of the parks and just tear down each morning.

If someone local has a good spot near the venue that wouldn't mind giving up some yard or driveway space, drop a note :)

If I get things worked out ahead of time, I'll post an edit here. Otherwise we're figuring on just finding a decent spot and hoping no one cares.

Our setup is basically this with a Jeep Grand Cherokee instead of the minivan:

Here's my best suggestions...

A. Please know that you might find a decent spot BUT someone will care if you are inside the town limits of Telluride. Car/Jeep/Minivan camping is not allowed by local ordinance. Don't even try it.

B. Try thinking about throwing an extra tent in the jeep (humor me here) just to use for the fest camping. It couldn't hurt to at least consider the idea. You'd also have a back up tent for the trip just in case you get somewhere and have some kind of failure on that REALLY COOL RIG on the Jeep.

Here's my reason... I do not head out to go camping without two tents. Good thing too. Went to see RRE at Lolo Hot Springs with friends and my fun little tent had a rod go through the roof, and when the other end of the rod sprung it went through the side of the tent. Good thing I had a back up because we were 25 miles away from EVERYTHING!

Just consider this option and add a Forest Service Campground to this mix. It's just for two or three nights. What could it hurt?

 Wave

you won't be able to roll into town after wed with out a in town camping pass....they only give an hourly pass (road into telluride closes for the weekend). if you do make it in, the parking regulator will get you  if you're with out a town/local parking pass. (don't get towed, there goes the weekend and your tent)
but don't fret....keep checkin the ticket exchange for camping....you never know, you might get lucky!!! look often..... Flower

SO, if we camp in the mountains outside of T, is there day parking during the festival?
Mt. Village? Or other areas and then bus into town?

can gondola ride down from the free covered parking garage if you get there early enough.  and then on the way back have a game of frolf.

speaking of frolf.  anyone in for some games pre-fest?

If you don't like something, change it.  Otherwise change the way you feel about it.

At least in the winter, the garage in the mountain village is no longer free.  It's $5 per day & $20 overnight.  Not sure how they're going to work it over the summer though?

I'm not a fan of the village nor Telski!

I'm sure the Planet Bluegrass volunteers will direct you to a free parking area (maybe Society Turn) for the day and you can take the shuttle to the festival.
