One more thing. Can you drive from Mary Ilium to the festival and park in a designated area on the outskirts of town if need be? Also is the road between the camp ground and festival treacherous?

Negative. You'll want to leave your car where you're parked outside of the campground and take the shuttle.

Have dreamed of making the trip to Telluride for 38 years and think this might be the year for us. The kids are out of college, the timing is right. I just need to know, does the festival and camping ever sell out ? I'm hoping to get town park camping by watching the board, but would it be wise to buy regular tickets and camping at Mary Ilium or wherever just in case the TP tickets don't come through? So many questions!
Thanks.
Hey there, Whiskerwind!  That was our story last year - waited over 30 years, got the kids out of school and on their own, and finally made the trip to Telluride.  We had a wonderful time - people were awesome, music was fun and inspiring, and the weather - well, last year's weather could not have been better.  I guess the best endorsement is that we are returning for our second year, in what we hope will become an annual event for a long, long time.  Make your plans and start the countdown to an unforgetable Summer Soltice!

Actually our two kids aren't on their own yet and will be coming with us! Just so many variables on the best way to do this. We live in Massachusetts. Do you have tickets yet? Where do you stay?

We're live in Maryland just north of Baltimore.  We've tried to get our girls to join us this summer, but they have committed to too many weddings and such for friends and family during the summer.  We've suggested they set aside next summer, and the next, and .......  Because of the long commute to TRide, we determined that we couldn't really travel with the camping equipment by air, so instead we found a condo downtown - a bit more expensive than up in Mountain Village, but worth it for convenience and less distance to haul chairs, backpacks, tarps, etc to Town Park.  Likely doing the same this year.  Just got our tickets in the mail yesterday!!! Cheers

Ya. I was trying to figure how we'd get all that equipment on a plane. I'd prefer to just drive from Mass, but our cars aren't so new, and besides, I don't think we could stand being so "together" all that way, and we don't have town park tickets. As much as I love sleeping out under the stars, perhaps we should look at the condo option. Do you fly to Denver and rent a car? Can you park at your condo and then walk to the festival? Do you do any east coast festivals? We try to get to Clifftop WV when we can, and we've done Merlefest several times. But Telluride is The Mother.

Last year we flew into Albuquerque and drove into Telluride - about 5 to 6 hours.  This year we're probably flying into Denver, although we do want to tack on one day to enjoy the Durango-Silverton Railroad, so we may fly into Albuquerque once again.  Anywhere that Southwest flies - no extra fees for luggage.  Once we were in our condo last year, we didn't touch our car for 6 days - had parking in the condo garage (no extra charge).  Everything is in walking distance, while Mountain Village was an easy gondola ride up and back.  Yes, we've been doing Delfest the last 2 years - great preview to Telluride.  Just heard about Cliftop just this past weekend, so I thought I'd look it up and figure out if we can do it.  We just watched the documentary Bluegrass Journey, set at Greyfox (north of Albany, NY) and thought that might be worth checking out also.

Thanks for all your advice. I would love to fly through Albuquerque, as that's where I went to college, but we'll see. Clifftop is great if you like old time and play an instrument. There really is no line-up, just a couple of thousand folks camped out in the woods playing music. There is a dance hall and a band competition. Sam's going to be at Greyfox this year!

Hey All! This is going to be my girlfriend and I's first year at Telluride, and my first time ever in Colorado! I had a question about Nightgrass shows. I will be staying Mary E this year, and was wondering how well the shuttle bus schedule works. Like if someone is playing an encore or something at a Nightgrass show will the shuttles wait? Are they pretty good about that thing. or do you just have to keep a close eye on your watch and maybe miss an encore if you have to? Any feedback would be much appreciated!  Cheers
