Hi all you beautiful ppl!
I went to the TBF for the first time last year..wow what a blast! This year I decided to stay local and do Rockygrass. We stayed at a condo in Telluride because we didnt know better lol. I figured Id try for the lotto this year so we can camp onsite and really get the phamily feel this time. I also won the vehicle pass. I wasnt sure if I should even get this but I figured it would be beneficial.
Any thoughts on why its good or convienent to have the vehicle pass? Or is it just the obvious..convienent and less of a haul?
When do ppl normally arrive or what is recommended to get a good spot? Are there certain spots to go for that are better than others?
We will be a party of 4..are there restricitons on camp size type thing or first come first serve as far as setting up tent/camp?

I really really appreciate any and all help!
 Cheers

Congratulations!

The lineup for camping starts the sunday before the festival with the campground opening at 6 on Thursday before the festival.  There will be at least 20 to 30 cars in line by Monday or Tuesday.  Having your car onsite is convenient but not necessary.  Realistically depending on where you camp you won't be able to get your vehicle out anyway.  You can park it at the Bohn Park which is about a 5-10 min walk from the festival or there is a shuttle.  It is nice to have your car onsite if you have a lot of stuff you just want to leave in the car.  Depending on when you get into the site you should have no problem getting up two tents and may even find grass and shade.  You can camp in the front or in back near the stage-no cars in back.

Everything is first come first served.

Yep, you put your vehicle in line at Bohn Park (the majority of people arrive on Thursday).  Then on Thursday at 6:00pm, the line moves to Planet Bluegrass and the mad scramble for a camping spot begins.  There's no hard and fast rules on space, just be considerate of others and understand that you will be camping shoulder to shoulder (or tent stake to tent stake).  By 10:00, there's hardly a foot of space open.  Have your tarp ready and don't take too long to decide on a spot.  Throw the tarp down to mark your tent space.
When you enter the PB driveway, going left will take you to the behind stage campground.  Tents only, no vehicles, but you can unload and then move your vehicle back to Bohn.  Going straight takes you to the main campground.

On the PB site, click on Rocky Grass, then Info, then Guidelines, then scroll to On-Site Camping Line Policy.

Hello, I'm a first-timer too and was wondering where the best spots to camp are since I've never been here before and I'm flying in from out of town on Saturday and I'm in the academy, do academy students get first choice of campsite before the general population for the festival itself?  Any info would be much appreciated, thanks.   Flower

The academy camping is sectioned off to a particular part of the campground.

All you'll need to do is decide if you'd like to be by the river, or closer to the entrance of the campground/ festival.

My wife and I are first timers that got lucky in the lottery for on-site camping, but we won't be able to arrive until Friday morning.  We're not picky about the specific area for tent placement, but are wondering just how challenging it going to be to find a spot at all (if there's hardly a foot of space open by 10pm Thur. night.)

Also wondering what time the music kicks off on Friday.  Thanks in advance for any info.

Rob
