Those pictures are AWESOME  Medal and perfect to get the point across.

I spoke with my son-in-law about his drive from Seattle to Florida (Navy boy) and the man clamed-up. He couldn't even tell me what it was like. I was onto another conversation when he tapped me on the shoulder and said, "it's like that song... Slow Ride, take it easy" and then his face went white again.

PSA Complete!  Thanks for the help! Thumbs Up

ok, I'm only confessing because it might help.  I missed the turn off and coming from Moab in the morning I ended up driving through the pass to Durango instead of the short way to T-ride.  It was really beautiful but I felt like an idiot.

Moral of the story, get a better map at AAA, watch the signs (add that to camp philosopher's tool kit).

Nope, no worries, really.
I've never had to drive there in the snow, and hopefully that doesn't happen **knocks wood**, but even if so, you're a Chicagoan, you know how to drive in that!

Oh man,  now I'm really freaked out...
Are there any barriers to stop you going over the edge if you come off the road?

Thank heavens I have Daniela and Hooch to follow   Thumbs Up

When I first moved here, we went to Moab to check out McStiffs as a possible supplier for Doral.  Missed the turn in Naturita and ended up in GJ Swearing

some curves have guardrails, some do not.  the ride from the south is as beautiful as from the north.  always be alert, not only about looking at vistas, but especially for the wildlife.  we all know too many people who have had incidents with deer.

when stopping to take pictures, please make sure you are not on a curve, and are completely off of the roadway.  if you can't do both, you're pulled over in the wrong spot.

gas up in montrose or cortez/durango.

It's not so much the deer.... they bounce pretty well. Do be very careful of the Elk, they tend to be very large and very heavy. It puts a real crimp in your vacation when you hit one of those. It's best to avoid driving during dusk or late at night as the large ungulates tend to roam during those hours.

Then there is this funny story about suicidal rabbits in the Paradox valley, maybe I'll tell it to EJ so he can write a song.

Seriously folks, there's no room for cowboys on the highway. Be respectful of everyone on the road and remember, most of us are visitors to this lovely place. Take some time to become aquainted with those things called  quote Turnouts quote, you don't have be a big truck, motor home, or hauling a large trailer to be a slow vehicle.

This especially applies to you quote Flatlanders quote. Take your time enjoy the scenery and thank the spirits that you've finally made to paradise.

 Cheers

Forgot to mention, a mile of the spur closest to town will be under construction, as is currently keystone hill(still).  Pacific Street from Pine street to the old library is torn up and blocked.  Plan accordingly.

It's SO very much fun to plaster your car windows with white shoe polish for the ride to the festival.  Things like "TBF or Bust", or "Honk if are a festivarian", or "Honk if you are going to TBF".  It makes the drive that much more exciting.   Love Love Love Love
