Living Life With Delusions Of Banjur

URL icon « on: December 04, 2009, 04:43:20 PM »

Hey everybody, it's my turn! Wave

Brian's announcement yesterday of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros was a story of father and son in Colorado. I'd like to continue in the Colorado vein with the next announcement...

I haven't lived in the state as long as many of you have been going to the festival, no question. However, when I moved here I was trying to understand the identity of the new place I had chosen to call home.

I hadn't been to Telluride, I hadn't even been to Planet Bluegrass...I just knew that there was something special here and that it seemed to permeate everything and everyone around me.

Until one fateful night at the Fillmore....

I had seen this particular band a couple of times back in my home state of Tennessee and had a great time, but it wasn't until I saw them surrounded by their family that I truly understood what it meant to be a Coloradan.

Unbeknownst to me, I was also experiencing for the first time what it meant to be a Festivarian.

The energy in the room was palatable. The music was a beautifully orchestrated acoustic maelstrom of bliss. I was only beginning to understand why the fish loved the maelstrom, I only had to ask...

It was after that night that I truly understood what the Colorado music community was. A group of people that loved being together. The musicians and the fans. Everyone was there for each others company, and music was the common element.

That, to me, is what the Telluride Bluegrass Festival is all about. One big happy family, pickin' and grinnin'....organized chaos. All things our next band has....and you love.

So, without further ado...

wait for it.....

(Ferg makes us do this, he loves it).....

scroll one more time, lest you anger the corn god....

Ladies and Gentlemen, you know them. You love them, and we're proud to have them back....

LEFTOVER SALMON Fish

Drew, Vince and the rest of the gang will once again join us to perform their Polyethnic Cajun Slamgrass.

We've had quite a history together over the course of the band's 20 years...Here's a clip about the relationship of the festival and the band: Excerpt about TBF and LoS from the bands documentery, "Years In Your Ears"

Hold on to your hats, because I foresee quite a few of Vince's "Telluride 360's" and a few more cries of "FEEESSSTTTIIIVAAALLLL" bouncing from the canyon walls.

Feel free to post your favorite video in this thread...We'll turn it into one big 'ole Leftover Salmon video feast!

My first Salmon show was at Telluride a couple of years ago (2008?), I can't wait.

My real contribution to the thread is the recognition that: this is perhaps a double-announcement. Does anyone else catch my drift? I love this configuration and I hope that this Salmon announcement implies them. They played that same year and just came out with a new album. Here is one of their new ones:

My perfect Leftover FEESTIIVAAL! would be to have them play two hours on Friday night *hint hint* and then have a either an LoS or Drew Emmitt Band (and friends) night grass at the Sheridan Saturday.  Maybe have a Thursday Great American Taxi at the Moon.
