Ryan actually returned in the form of Conor Oberst!  If you enjoyed
Oberst, I'm glad you did, but his set was utter schwag to me; to
the point that at my campground, several of my fellow group campers
was waiting for the set to end.

Personally, I preferred the Elvis Costello set a touch more than Byrne's because
he made a genuine effort to connect with the audience.  Don't get
me wrong:  Byrne's set was clearly unique and the music was well
done and great overall, but I found one thing missing in Byrne's
set for me:  spontaneity!

David Byrne actually waved and bowed to the audience.  I thought the performance was almost alien and that his removed presence, until the end, was part of the act and his persona, having not had the oppertunity too see him prior I don't know..  What an excellent performance it was.  Seems to me like he coriographs w/ freedom given to the performers. . . Slippery People missed,  little else missing for me.

I was looking forward to this set, and Byrne did not disappoint.  What an amazing combination of auditory and visual treats!

I totally agree that the David Byrne set was one of the finest sets I've seen in my years at Telluride.  I was looking forward to it, but never expected the amazing show we got.  I usually go up to Run-a-Muck for the last set, but stayed down front for this one and am so glad that I did.  Major kudos to Craig and Steve for bringing them.

And, who out there can claim to be in the kind of shape those folks are in.  And at almost 9,000 feet with no air!!!

The funniest thing I witnessed was on friday morning in Maggies where I guy who clearly hadnt stayed for David Byrne tried to bullshit a conversation with a lady while pretending he had. Sad sap.

If all the people who claimed to have seen it had actually been there, there would have been a crowd of about 20,000 

It was a cool fantastic set.

I was in the clouds for weeks after seeing this show!!  It was hands down, the COOLEST thing I have ever seen!  When, on the THIRD encore, they did Burning Down the House, I said, "That's it, put a fork in me, burn down the stage, I have seen it all, we can all go home now."  I was scared for Gaelic Storm, because I didn't know them...  how would they be able to step up to the plate after this HUGE eye-candy that was  David Byrne???  Oh man!  They did it just right, and there I was, having an amazing time and dancing my pants off! Damn fine festival 2009:)
