I think he just discovered Risk... He is re-discovering board games... We really dont have a plan yet but we are thinking he will get back to doing all the "kid" things he used to do once there........... boat races, water gun fights, selling ice, board games, bubble blowing, bloody mary refiller, showing off his home brewed rootbeer , family tent stuff etc....... Of course, he will read some as well... If there was ever a kid that "read" too muchp- it's Alex.  Matthew my 13 yr old may enjoy Risk as well....

We have an electric Ice cream maker if you want to use it for floats!
And believe me, if he sees the right hippie chick, a 12 year old boy will be interested really quickly!

Possibility on the ice cream maker.... we will have a generator....... ALthough I did get them one of those ice cream maker balls but we have never tried yet to see  if they really work....


I still dont believe about the hippie chick and him yet.... He really is a very,very young 12...

I can attest to the ice cream maker balls (SUR), they really do work! Had a couple while camping in Michigan a few years ago and it kept the (also young teens at the time) occupied for a while.

Ya know you are in a great position to introduce him to all kinds of games while at fest.

What boys are into at 12 are bugs and groose things. Get him a book that identifies bugs and birds. A pair of binoculars and a magnifying glass and a camera.
My son loved to build things at 12, Airplanes and ships. And he just started listening to his own music.

 Boy kids grow fast. I wish I could do it all over again.

I think that Miki is on to something!  I teach elementary age kids and last year we started a garden at our school.  The kids all have science journals, tape, map colors and a pencil.  They go out and investigate. They could look around at nature all day if we let them. They love to discover new things and tape these things in their journals! I have a couple of blank journals at home.  Ill bring a few for you!

We can try but with Alex's writing problems , it may be hard at festival.......

As for bugs and nature, that is Matthew's domain... We havent traveled without a bug catcher ever..

Alex is the social one.. He enjoys people and being the center of attention.. He has more fun doing things like water gun fights, planning what he will be in fashion show, and the other things I mentioned in first post... He will find things to do just will be a bit of a challenge at first because of the "deprogramming."  LOL

You would be surprised!! The great things about the science journal is it can be whatever you want it to be...some of my kids that had challenges with writing loved it because it wasn't a "Writing" journal...they could tape in things and draw the things that they loved and didn't feel the pressure to have to write.  Believe it or not, they did actually write it them though, I think because they didn't feel the pressure. I get what you are saying about being social though.  I'll bring some just incase...I may actually start a new one to show my kids at the beginning of the year, so I will need the stuff anyway!

I'm not afraid, and I can't wait to try Hooch's crunchy fog, oops frog.  They did look at me a bit funny at the liquor store, but when you have about 10 kinds of booze and liqueurs in your basket and you tell them you're headed for Festivaaaaaaaaaaal,  they just say "oh, it looks like you're gonna have a good time then".  Understatement of the month.

so the car is half packed but we don't leave until tuesday afternoon; think people are going to look at me funny for driving around town with a perma-grin and a car full of camping gear tomorrow?    i wish we could leave NOW.

My car is packed full and I'm headin' for Telluride!

Car is packed except for non and perishable foods.  One more 6 hour work day and we are on our way! 

I cannot wait to meet all of you fine folks.

All i accept to buy are added bungees , zip ties , and additional tarps ...Oh and adjustment the Batter mix for the catfish , and I aswell capital to buy a bivouac but alas maybe next year forth with a baby solar system
