I know Telluride has it's instrument workshops and Rockygrass has the Academy preceding it, but, are there any workshops at Rockygrass itself, or is learning centered around participating in the jams?

I don' think RG holds any workshops during the festival.....however the night jams offer all levels, from novic to advanced... There is always a camp or two willing to work with others...
and most jams are open to pickers...

There are some "performance workshops" in the pavilion during the festival. It just depends on the year/ performers/ schedule.

For instance, The Packway Handle Band did a "vocal harmonies/ single mic workshop" last year.
The hour long set was a mixture of their songs as well as them talking about their mic set up and harmonies.
