A record label? dont they know those are things of the past? LOL

usually the planet doesnt have band contest winners back the next year. And probably only the ones that are really kicking butt and making a big name get to ever come back. it would be interesting to see the stats on that. perhaps that deserves its own thread?

Hummm.....

I thought the Band Contest Winners had a spot the next year.

Didn't the Dixie Chicks win at T'ride, and Younder?

Just curious.  :)

Spring Creek was the 2007 band competition winner and played at last years (2008) festival. That being said, I'm assuming the previous poster was just mentioning they haven't been invited back for the second year.

I love love love Spring Creek Bluegrass Band.  They are some of the nicest, most down to earth people around.  I was lucky enough to get to spend a good amount of time with them at a small festival up in Buffalo, WY.  They just hung out with us, drank some beer, and played tunes with us when the guitar got over to them in the circle around the fire.  Just very down to earth people.  Then again, most are in the bluegrass seen.  Best damn people on earth! :)

I think that the band contest winners are generally given their spot the year after they win, but then have to "earn" their way back by showing that they aren't just a flash in the pan. If Spring Creek continues to grow, hopefully they'll be back in the future.

Greensky Bluegrass won in 2006, played in 2007 and weren't asked back last year. Since then, they've released two albums and gained a lot of fans so I'm hoping they've "earned" their way back, at least for a nightgrass.

Greensky played some gigs out here in Portland recently that were PACKED! They sounded tight and happy. It was a blast and nice to see them have such a great turnout.

I definitly second this.

That "Five Interstates" album that Greensky put out is quite possibly my favorite of 2008.  You can listen strait through without a bit of letdown.  Very good stuff.

Trampled By Turtles also came out with a new album "Duluth" that was very well recieved.  They have been around for years now and are yet to make a Telluride appearence.  I'm hoping that this is the year!  One of the most entertaining shows around.

Hells yeah!
Lets finally pass the torch and give these guys an Opera House show!
They are blowing up in the rest of the country. I think they could sell that place out in a heart beat. They also seem like one of those bands that knows how to throw a party and invite all of their friends to play with them (RRE, YMSB, etc) Wow i am getting excited jus thinking about it. lol

They are doing a Colorado Ski Tour soon, too, so maybe that will get them on the TBF bill again.
