PLEASE! NO Chris Thile in the Houseband EVER.

Kind of like putting a pig on lipstick, just ruins the lipstick.

I assume it will be Luke.

I would hope Planet Bluegrass tell us ahead if it's Thile. I can plan leaving early then.

My guess is that they're gonna bring in Tim O'Brien, that way he and Sammy can trade off between Mando & Fiddle.  Plus, Timmy can sang!

Tim would be pretty epic, but Luke was amazing and I would like to see him play with the House Band again

I thought Luke was great last year; although the O's (O'Connor and O'Brien) wouldn't be a let down.

I agree with a veto on Thile. Just doesn't fit the vibe. Luke does!

Wow.  Not much love for Chris 'round these parts.  Maybe I missed something from last year??

I get that some folks don't care for the style of music he's playing these days but he'll certainly be the best mando player there.... and maybe the most versatile musician ta boot.

We were lucky enough to catch the late night Sheridan show last year and it was my favorite music of the weekend (and one of the best shows i've ever seen).  Some might say thats all well and good but it was also probably the best BLUEGRASS we saw.  Tight, explosive, not too noodly or showy.  Better than the McCoury boys and friends, even better than (dare i say) Hot Rize.   All the others were great  SCR, Spring Creek, Skaggs and Hornsby, Yonder..... but someone had to be the best and they were it.

Whoever plays in the House Band will be terrific just can't see why the hating on Thile.
Somebody clue be in.

later on folks

peace

I agree.  Unless I missed something as well, Chris Thile is a very talented picker who will be around for years and years to come.  Sure, he is a bit showy but that is one of the amusing things about him.  His robot-like movements just flat out crack me up.  This year, with the personal in his band, they are going to absolutly rip it up.  I'm jacked for their sets!

His playing has always seemed unemotional and flat to me for some reason.  It's been a while since I was able to see through an entire one of his sets.

As for him being the best mando picker there, that is certainly open to debate.  Personally, if Drew Emmitt is there in some form or another, I think he'll be the best mando picker on the stage for the weekend.

All of that being said, I'm not trying to say that Chris is a bad musician, he's a very very good musician, I just don't care for his style is all.

I saw Brian Sutton and Luke Bulla on Tuesday night and they were just wonderful. I'm pretty sure Luke has plans to be in T'ride this June!  Thumbs Up

P.S.
Nice meeting you Tracy!

Yes, yes....absolutely amazing show.  Can't wait until Feb. 19 when they play The Station Inn again.  Great to see you, too, Hope!

I think Luke being there is a believable rumor....I hope so!

Uh, anyone ever heard of Mike Marshall?

I can see Thile's talents, but I just don't see why people always gawk over him. Not my pint of Ben & Jerry's

We are just flat out lucky to be able to hear so much great talent in such a short span of time. Each man has got his own style equally good for me anyway.
Chris and his facial expressions crack me up when he plays,, his eyes full of excitement like a 3 year old on Christmas morning......... Cheers Can we leave yet,, she dreams of TELLLLLLLUUUUUUUUURIDE as she is burried in paper work........ save me Telluride. I need some video............

very true, 'best' is a tricky subject.

that said, its like saying that the 100 meter gold medal was up for debate in Beijing.  Not really the case.  Thile by a long shot.

anyhow...

is 'matt comptom'  actually mike compton?  if so, he's fantastic.  his playing on shawn camp's "Live at the Station In' is wonderful.

I could listen to Adam Steffey's tone all day.

wow this is fun.

It's very debatable.  There are many people that are at the very least on par with Chris, and several that I would rank above him in terms of technical skill as well as in the intangibles.  He's definitely in the top 5 on the Telluride stage every year, and that's no mean feat.

He's coming to my town to play a set with Edgar Meyer, and given my luck, I'll be out of town. I had been looking forward to seeing them since September and just recently found out I won't be able to Frown

Hey Folks, from a Nashville point of view...

Chris is growing a few more Roots to go with all those Branches. He's really coming around.  Thumbs Up

Having said that....
I'd prefer Mike Marshall with the House Band.  :)
