It seems like it's a "singer/songwriter" theme this year.  I would absolutely LOVE to see John Prine come back. Mr. Prine is one of the best.
That being the case, I'd love to see Darrell Scott back, doubt it will happen but he is probably my favorite musician ever and definitely my favorite singer songwriter I've ever heard. I didn't start getting into this type of music till my brothers played "River Take Me" off of Sam Bush's "Laps in Seven." Before that, I thought it was some weird thing my oldest brother got into and my youngest brother just followed him without thinking, then Darrell Scott and Sam Bush opened my eyes. Without Darrell, I wouldn't have ever gone to Telluride, and now I can't picture my summer without it.

Steve Martin's Album "The Crow" is coming out next week (initially an amazon.com exclisive). So that being said, Steve Martin might not really be out of the question. It would certainly be fun :)

Anyone familiar with "The Cherryholmes" and if there has been any mention of their attending?  Would certainly like to hear a bit of their new recording while at TBF.

"Can we just leave it as LS, as we know it and if scheduled by PB, is a maybe at this point."

Agree on letting a sleeping dog dog lie on the personal issues, BUT I am reading your blurb as Leftover Salmon (Prior to the recent events) was a possible addition for the 09 line up?!

Lol just saying (and I just love those guys)

I see that Levon Helm will be at Red Rocks on the 13th of June. Now that would be a very nice addition. In the area at just about the right time.

I don't know about the rest of ya. but if you were along my though lines, you'd be wanting the Clarjk Brothers to play this show..  Out of all of the rock bands and evertything to make it through the compeitition they were going through...they won on every level of  ---rock , bluegrass, big band,  and several more. They are a kick ass down home (they are all brothers playing together (and they have been their whoe life) and they don't give less than 110% on stage when they are playing. ... So ,,, if there is any power that bees. this is on of the new bands that needs to be inclued in thei festival. (They just won americas next greatest band like a yeah abd a half a go.) You will not be dissippointed with them... PERIOD

So, make a splash for theses guys, you wont' be s0rr7y that u didiel

and if you/ve never heard them before, google them. They Freaken ROCK!

I think I should have no other mortal wants, if I could always have plenty of music. It seems to infuse strength into my limbs and ideas into my brain. Life seems to go on without effort, when I am filled with music.

I'm personally not much of a fan of AKUS, but I do certainly know an angelic voice when I hear one... there are only a few people that still give me goosebumps to hear sing, Alison is one of them.

Few! I was getting slightly worried by the turn this threat was taking!
I have to interject: Alison embodies what bluegrass is to me, she opened my eyes to that whole universe and I'm forever grateful to her for that.
I discovered her when I about 5 years old and she woke up in me this burning urge to sing, this ache in my chest I felt so strongly for that sound. Her debute albums are bluegrass treasures, and she went on to create a genre of her own. This I can understand might not be to everyone's taste, but if you go back and listen to her musical career, albums like Too late to Cry, Two Highways, I've got that old Feeling or Everytime you say Goodbye, you can't say she hasn't got a distinctive voice. To me, there is no one out there who matches her skill, purity, tone, warmth, subtlety, range of voice and the sheer emotion she brings to a song. If just one song, listen to her sing the beatles "I will" with Tony Furtado & Rob Ickes. If that doesn't give you goosebumps I don't know what will!
Also, when you look at her musical path, she's always been playing with the greats: Jerry Douglas, Tony Rice, Sam Bush, Stuart Duncan, Tony Trischka, and the list goes on and on...

I'll just add MY wish list for the 2009 Telluride Line up (this will be my first bluegrass festival so I'm dreaming of my total bluegrass utopia)
Alison Krauss
Tony Rice (in an ideal world with his voice back)
Stuart Duncan
Tony Furtado
Alison Brown
Adam Steffey
Just a minute, how about the 1992 Union Station formation: Alison Krauss, Alison Brown, Adam Steffey, Tim Stafford and Barry Bales (another utopic idea...)
Sierra Hull
The Nashville Bluegrass band
Tony Trischka
Harley Allen
Jerry Douglas, Bela Fleck, Tim O'Brien & Sam Bush, but they're confirmed already !!!!  :)

I'm probably forgetting loads but those a probably my bare essentials  Wink

Lets see if I get first timers luck....

Howdy all

As someone who went on record already as not being a very big Allison Kraus fan, this is part of what I do love about this music and this festival.  People with different tastes coming together and praising their favorites and defending them against nay-sayers all while keeping it quite friendly and civil.  I'm sure we've all been other places (web-sites and real world) where people aren't nearly as pleasant about their preferences.

I've actually already purchase one album by an artist that I knew nothing about before seeing them mentioned here.  Right on.

Looking forward to seeing everybody we know and don't yet know.

gotta run
peace and be well

by the way, maybe we could all bring soy bacon instead of pig bacon?
fat chance right?

Oh man.  If Planet Bluegrass announced the 1992 AKUS lineup I would probably have a heart attack.  That would be absolutely incredible, beyond words.  Here's to hoping for AK in any musical formation!!

They played Rockygrass two years ago or so (things blend together after awhile). I loved them and were by far my favorite act I knew nothing about. I  have purchased all their records (used I admit) and you really can't go wrong with any of them.

I'd 2nd  a Cherryholmes set at TBF.
And Levon Helm.
And many others mentioned.
