Could I solicit opinions on camp pads?  Can we get by with the $8 foam pads from Walmart?

Festivirgin here and getting very excited!

Well, my husband wants to lay down our yoga mats, then our old sleeping bags, and sleep in our new bags on top of that.   EEK!  I'm thinking that's not going to cut it!  If any internet strangers were appalled by this, it would help my cause.

Any specific recommendations for camp pads that are good at high altitude (especially in the $30 and under category) would be super helpful, too.

Buy a queen size mystery foam mattress and an air mattress sacrifice
And mate them. (use the air mattress as a pillow case just cut em and stuff em) we did that and it waterproofs it as well as provides a moisture/thermal barrier.  You can find old air matresses all over try good will thrift shops craigslist  freebox ect. Good luck  ps just to clarify do not use the air mattress with air. You will freeze  :)

In my humble opinion, no you cannot. I recommend the REI 3.5" XL pad found here - it's worth the investment and through April 15th, REI is having their 20% off one item sale:

We're nearly done packing.  After strapping a few duffel bags to the roof rack, everything on the list fits in our Xterra.  Here's the updated camping pack list for 2011.

For some who might be flying, that may not all fit.  LOL  For those of us who left sometime ago and are living the dream on our way to TBF we hope we have packed correctly.  Thumbs Up. Getting closer to festi intros every day.
