Does anyone know the name of the 4th place band in the finals on Saturday?  They're from Austin and did a wonderful tune about a "jacket racket" that I want to try & find.  Thanks!

I just wanted to ask if you know how a group from Albuquerque did...they were called the Squash Blossom Boys.

Green Mountain Grass maybe? Something close to that anyway

I don't think they were listed in the program...maybe they changed their name....

It's pretty standard that two or three bands don't show up so that some alternates get in.  Here's what the email from the Blue Canyon Boys says:

"Kudos to the other 11 bands, with a special shout-out to the three other finalists: DejaBlue Grass (Atlanta, GA), Cyrstal Ridge (Tucson, AZ) and Green Mountain Grass (Austin, TX)."

They did great - but unfortunately the judges didn't think great enough, as they didn't make the finals.

I tried to make it but it just wasn't in the cards this year.  There were two bands from the East Coast, DejaBlue Grass Band from Atlanta and another from Nashville.  How'd they do in the competition?  MZ

I love the band contest in Elks Park - it is one of my favorite things at TBF.  The bad thing is that to listen to the contest you have to miss the set of the band that won the previous year..  They need to change that!

Green Mountain Grass made the finals (for the 2nd year in a row).  I think Rodeo Pony from Nashville was the band that cancelled and GMG was a last minute fill in, since I do not remember Rodeo Pony.  GMG was in town because they played at the Bubble Lounge every night of the festival (Wed-Sun)

The Finalists were:

Green Mountain Grass (Austin) - 4th place.  This is a great band - very talented instrumentalists.  I think they won 3rd place last year.

Crystal Ridge BG Band  (Tucson) - 3rd place

DejaBlue Grass Band (Atlanta) -  (white shirts) - 2nd place - when I heard this band on Friday, I thought for sure they would win the contest.  They should have saved their rendition of Dan Fogelberg's "Morning Sky" for the finals!

Blue Canyon Boys - (Lyons, CO) - black suits - 1st place -  I think the last song they did won the contest for them (I can't remember what it was - but it was acapella. Can anyone tell me what the song was??)

The judges got it right for the performances that day - traditional bluegrass was favored over the "new grass' of GMG!

This band did not make the finals, but they were very good.  There were so many good bands, that it's a shame only 4 get to play on the big stage!

I can't believe that it's lost in my head somewhere, what was the classic song that group did.  I'm stuck because all I think about now is how funny a bluegrass version of Cat Scratch Fever or Back in Black, or Walk this Way, see I'm just stuck.  What song did they do?

That's it.  I wasn't there but that's one they do a lot.  They also do a great "Fat Bottom Girls" by Queen.
