Music & travel & beer... not always in that order.

This one continues to hurt. The loss is immense. I inherited John Prine, like so many other artists, from my father who loved him first. Dad would cover songs, rewrite lyrics to fit our occasions (a favorite is his version of It's a Big Old Goofy World that he sang at my sister's wedding, adjusting the lyrics to be about my sister and her new husband, then updating them to incorporate their daughter and recording it so my niece hears it as part of her bedtime routine). .. Illegal Smile, Christmas in Prison, and so many more that are standards for our family. I will forever be grateful for TBF giving me the opportunity to see him live. Loving him and this year's festival is a lot right now.

Colbert had Brandi Carlile on tonight, talking about John Prine and singing Hello in There from her house. A beautiful version. It's on youtube if you missed it.
