I also LOVE the bluegrass version from the Grateful Dead of Whisky in the Jar.  I can jam pretty good on the mando solo  :)

As I was a-goin' over Gilgarra mountains
I met Colonel Pepper and his money he was counting
I drew forth my pistol and I rattled my sabre
Saying "stand and deliver, for I am a bold deceiver"

Chorus
Musha ringum duram da
Whack-fall the daddy-o
Whack-fall the daddy-o
There's whiskey in the jar

The shining yellow coins did sure look bright and jolly
I took the money home and I gave it to my Molly
She promised and she vowed that she never would deceive me
But the devil's in the women for they never can be easy

[chorus]

When I awoke between the hours of six and seven
Guards were standing 'round me in numbers odd and even
I flew to my pistols, but alas I was mistaken
I fired off my pistols and a prisoner was taken

[chorus]

They put me in jail without a judge or jury
For robbing Colonel Pepper in the morning so early
They didn't take my fist so I knocked down the sentry
And I bid a long farewell to that cold penitentiary

[chorus]

Some take delight in fishing and bowling
Others take delight in carriage a-rollin'
I take delight in the juice of the barley
Courting pretty women in the morning so early

Ok - don't kick me off this topic - I just keep coming up with more songs that I would love to play with all you fine pickers out there.

I heard Benny Galloway (Burle) sing this song - you could tell he really felt these lyrics:

Gentle on my Mind - John Hartford:

t's knowing that your door is always open and your path is free to walk,
That makes me tend to leave my sleeping bag rolled up and stashed behind your couch.
And it's knowing I'm not shackled by forgotten words and bonds and the ink stains that have dried upon some line,
That keeps you in the back roads by the rivers of memory, that keeps you ever gentle on my mind.

It's not clinging to the rocks and ivy planted on their columns now that bind me,
Or something that somebody said because they thought we fit together walkin'.
It's just knowing that the world will not be cursing or forgiving when I walk along some railroad track and find
That you're moving on the back roads by the rivers of my memory and for hours you're just gentle on my mind.

Though the wheat fields and the clothes lines and the junkyards and the highways come between us,
And some other woman's crying to her mother 'cause she turned and I was gone.
I still might run in silence, tears of joy might stain my face and summer sun might burn me till I'm blind,
But not to where I cannot see you walkin' on the back roads, by the rivers flowing gentle on my mind.

I dip my cup of soup back from the gurglin', crackling cauldron in some train yard;
My beard a roughn'ning coal pile and a dirty hat pulled low across my face;
Through cupped hands 'round a tin can, I pretend I hold you to my breast and find,
That you're wavin' from the back roads by the rivers of my memory ever smilin', ever gentle on my mind.

I have always thought of Telluride whenever I hear this song by Bonepony.

Seeds of Peace

There is a sacred place upon a mountain top
Beside a river flows, and it don't ever stop
A shrine of sanctity where I can get away
From the madness of a thousand yesterdays

If you spend your time with me (If you walk with me)
We can wander through the meadow
If you work the fields you'll see (If you just believe)
We can sow the Seeds of Peace

I am a carpenter; It is my given trade
I've got a simple house my own two hands have made
And if somebody wants to come and stay a while
Well that's all right by me, Lord it don't cramp my style

If you spend your time with me (If you walk with me)
We can wander through the meadow
If you work the fields you'll see (If you just believe)
We can sow the Seeds of Peace

If you spend your time with me
We can wander through the meadow
If you work the fields you'll see (If you just believe)
We can sow the Seeds of Peace

And if somebody wants to stay a while
Lord it don't cramp my style

I don't know this song yet, but apparently it's something I should work on! This is for all of us newbies who wish to join in on the nuttiness.

Lets talk dirty in hawaiin
By john prine and fred koller

Well, I packed my bags and bought myself a ticket
For the land of the tall palm tree.
Aloha, old milwaukee, hello, waikiki
I just stepped down from the airplane
When I heard her say,
Wacka, wacka, nooka likka,
Wacka, wacka, nooka likka,
Would you like a lei?

Chorus:
Hey!
Lets talk dirty in hawaiin,
Whisper in my ear.
Kicka pooka mok a wa wahine
Are the words I lont to hear.
Lay your coconuta on my tiki,
What the hecka, mooka, mooka, dear,
Lets talk dirty in hawaiin,
Say the words I long to hear.
Its a ukelele, honolulu sunset,
Listen to the grass skirts sway,
Drinkin rum from the pineapple
Out on honolulu bay.
The steel guitars are playing
While shes talinkg with her hands,
Gimme, gimme oka-doka make a wisha wanna polka,
Words I understand.

Chorus

Well, I boughta lotta junka with my moola,
And I sent it to the folks back home,
I never had a chance to dance the hula,
Well, I guess I should have known.
When you start talkin to a sweet wahine,
Walkin in the pale moonlight
Ohka noka whatta setta knocka-rocka sis-boom-boccas.
Hope I said it right.

Some of you have been asking that I put "Feeling Like I Need to Fly" which I wrote shortly before last years festival and played around camp up on Myspace . I have done that.  Again the url is
http://www.myspace.com/jamesbuchanandragonstail

The lyrics:

Feeling Like I  Need to Fly

Living here is not that bad, it’s just here
I have a good home; I have a really good career
I have a woman who loves me and people know my name
Why do I keep feeling like I need to fly away?

Back in the day, I used to get in the car and go
Heading most anywhere I didn’t already know
There was something alive back then about being out on the road
But now it’s planes and hotel rooms and just dying to get back
 home

Chorus
But there are days I feel time’s just passing me by
Keep wondering how I’d live if I knew I might die
Though my life’s good, I’m trying to understand why

I keep feeling like I need to fly
And I am feeling like I need to fly
I keep feeling like I need to fly
Be on the road again
Free on the road again

Perry and me, we went to Mexico
It was '75 and we just decided we would go
Didn’t have a dime but we really didn’t care
Just knew by hook or crook we would somehow make it there

Peyote in the desert; there were angels in our heads
The one’s who amazed us; the one’s who took us to their beds
Stoned in Cabo, robbed in San Padre
I think about it now, I just remember feeling free

Chorus
But there are days I feel time’s just passing me by
Keep wondering how I’d live if I knew I might die
Now my life’s good, but I am wondering why

I keep feeling like I need to fly
And I am  feeling like I need to fly
I keep feeling like I need to fly
Be on the road again
Free on the road again

Like Kerouac and Dylan we were out looking for the truth
New York to Frisco, we left the pieces of my youth
From protests to free love, can’t think of much we didn’t try
Right or wrong, good or bad, you know, it felt so damned alive

Been dreaming ‘bout the old days seems like such a simpler time
Believed I could change the world, trust my heart and know my mind,
Do anything I wanted and not care much what it might cost
I’m wondering now where that child in me got lost

Chorus
‘Cause there are days I feel time’s just passing me by
Keep wondering how I’d live if I knew I was dying
Though my life’s good, I’m trying to understand why

I keep feeling like I need to fly
And I am feeling like I need to fly
I keep feeling like I need to fly
Be on the road again
Free on the road again

Probably just a remnant of my old restless soul
Shadows of the past trying to let me know
That it might be time again to just pick up and go
Be on the road again
Free on the road again

Big Rock Candy Mountain
from Calumet Music Co. Chicago -  copyright 1935

Key of C  -Chords are C - G7 - repeat as needed

on a summer day in the month of may, a burly bum came hiking,
down a shady lane through the sugar cane, he was looking for his liking,
as he roamed along he sang a song of the land of milk and honey,
where a bum can stay for many a day and he won't need any money.

chorus:
Oh the (where the) buzzin of the bees in the cigarrette trees
near the soda water fountain, at the lemonade springs,
where the bluebird sings, in that big rock candy mountain.

on a run came a farmer and his son, to the hay fields they were bounding,
said the bum to the son, why don't you come, to that big rock candy mountain?
so the very next day they hiked away, the mileposts they kept counting,
but they never arrived at the lemonade tide in that big rock candy mountain.

chorus:
Oh the (where the) buzzin of the bees in the cigarrette trees
near the soda water fountain, at the lemonade springs,
where the bluebird sings, in that big rock candy mountain.

there's a lake of jin, we can both jump in, and the hand outs grow in bunches,
in the new mown hay we can sleep all day, and the bars all have free lunches,
where the mail train stops, and there ain't no cops, and the folks are tender hearted.
where you never change your socks, and you never throw rocks,
and your hair is never parted.

chorus:
Oh the (where the) buzzin of the bees in the cigarrette trees
near the soda water fountain, at the lemonade springs,
where the bluebird sings, in that big rock candy mountain.

jack rolled his eyes up to the skies and said to the bum named sandy,
i'm weary, i'm starved, i want a steak to carve, where is that gol-darn candy?
i'll hike no more for my feet are sore, i'll never reach that fountain.
i want to be a homegaurd with a union card in that big rock candy mountain.

chorus:
Oh the (where the) buzzin of the bees in the cigarrette trees
near the soda water fountain, at the lemonade springs,
where the bluebird sings, in that big rock candy mountain.

 Cheers
