How about Angeline the Baker, or is it Angelinea Baker? I've heard it done so many different ways. My favorite is crooked still...and they change the words all up. Anyone know how the original song goes???

Great songs are mentioned but .... the songs we have lyrics to so far are:

In Tall Buildings,  By John Hartford,
Hard-Headed Woman by Elvis
WAYFARING STRANGER (sung by Jerry Garcia, Emmy Lou, Crucial Country, …
It's A Great Day To Be Alive,  Darrell Scott
The River's Gonna Run  (Julie Miller) (As performed by Sam Bush / Emmy Lou Harris)
Angelina Baker, From Dwight Diller on Elzics Farewell
Boz Scaggs Lido
James Keelaghan or  Richard Schindell's “Dodge?” What is the name of the song?

If you find the lyrics to your song request, I'll add it gladly.  I'm wondering if live music will be played if we have the chords?  I know they can be found somewhere.  Any musicians' out there care to comment to make this useful? Angel

ps. love ya, mean it.

Greetings everyone,
I have not been on the forum for a while due to work, etc. But saw that some of you wanted the lyrics to Packing for "Telluride: Ode to Town Park Camp"  Here   they are. a couple of words have changed (ABGAT is now Wander-in'). I will go one better, I will put the recording of it that Planet Bluegrass had on their website last year on My Space (it's the really long version, I now have others but it takes a long time to pack for Telluride so a long song will while away some time). I will make it so you can down load it.

Go to MySpace.com and click on "Music" (not people) at the top, then type in James Buchanan and it will come up (the picture is one I took in Scotland a couple of years ago when I was visiting Dougie Maclean - isn't it great that he will be there this year). Click on the little globe below the picture and it will take you there.

I will also put up a recording of "The Great Telluride Balloon Massacre" there.

Packing for Telluride:
Ode to Town Park Camp
by
James Buchanan

Rainy Friday, alarm clock screaming
6 am phone’s already ringing
On the line someone wants a piece of my life
Click the TV, the war is still on
Another day of too much killing
Watching this country drift down a mountain of lies

And it’s burning me out living at the speed of sound
Everyday feeling like another hard fought round
Too many days when I don’t know what to do
But its OK,  I know I’m going to get through

Because I’m packing for Telluride
Where the sun’s going to shine on me
Or it may rain, hell, it may snow
God knows what the weather will be

And I’m packing for Telluride

Telluride Tom may have a tear in his eye
Doc looks thin as he floats on by
But a rum ball or two is going to make everything OK
Jerry’s got his dobro, Bela’s coming to
And Sammy’s going to leave us howling at the moon
And all of these blues are going to fly off into the night

I’ll be honest, I’ve got a problem or two
Family and jobs and always too much left to do
And I don’t understand where this country is heading to
But it’s OK I think I’m going to get through

Because I’m packing for Telluride
Where the music's going to heal my soul
I'll be up with the sun, ready for the tarp run
God, I want to lose control

And I’m packing for Telluride

Chorus
Telluride I know what I’ll do
If To Hell U Ride, I’m riding with you
I’m packing light, leaving all this weight behind
Telluride I am ready to fly
Yes, I am packing for Telluride

Fishbone’s picking ‘till the morning light
Flamingo’s mixing more Island delights
Down at the Bowl someone is singing a new song
Up at Town Hall the Hippie has oysters roastin’
There’s Gumbo cooking and Homebrew flowin’
And me, I’m just hoping I never have to go back home

At Wander-In’ Ron’s in his very best thong
Kenny’s there smiling just lost in the song
And Carolyn’s going to love us, no matter what we do
Michelle’s been looking for her truth in science
But Eric knows the truth is the love deep inside us
And Ellen’s going to be there, so I know the moon’s going to shine

Now the world’s full of troubles and the bad guys too often win
But the Town Park gatekeepers, they’re not letting them in
When it gets so bad I don’t feel much at all
It’s OK ‘cause I’m heading for FESTIVALLLLL

Yes, I’m packing for Telluride
I need to feel just a touch of grace
Walk around with a smile, feeling whole for a while
Take a break from this human race

God, I'm packing for Telluride

Chorus
And Telluride I know what I’ll do
If To Hell U Ride, I’m riding with you
I’m packing light, leaving all this weight behind
Telluride I am ready to fly

Tim is going to sing about peace and love
When the Boom Chicks are on, God looks down from above
With a smile on Her face thinking this is how it’s supposed to be
Camping in the mountains with a song in our hearts
Believing for while this is how a better world starts
If more love is the answer then Telluride’s almost there

And I’m packing for Telluride
Music hanging in the trees
These friends all around me
In this place that has found me
At this Festival that’s going to set me free
And I’m packing for Telluride

Chorus
And Telluride I know just what I’ll do
If To Hell U Ride, I’m riding with you
I’m packing light, leaving all this weight behind
Telluride I am ready to fly

Yes, I'm packing for Telluride
Thank God for Telluride

I don't plan to be, but just like Jen, I can't pull it off sober, at least when I'm a bit twisted it sounds good to me.

The link is

Thanks Hope for the catch on the typo. Fixed it, hopefully  before Bella saw it and decides to come back from the dead to join us.

How about this one???? Salvation Song by Avett Brothers (is it their original?)
i love this song! especially the chorus!
"we came to leave behind the World a better way"  . . .

If you take my heart
Don't leave the smallest part
I've no need to live if you're to come up gone
An as my life turns to a song
And if and when I treat you wrong
No I never want to hurt our family

And I would give up everything
No this is not just about me
And I don't know a plainer way to say it Babe
And they may pay us off in fame
Though that is not why we came
And I know well and good that won't heal our hearts

We came for salvation
We came for family
We came for all that's good that's how we'll walk away
We came to break the bad
We came to cheer the sad
We came to leave behind the world a better way

Now if I'm walkin' through the rain
And I hear you call my name
I will break into a run without a pause
And if your love laughs at your dreams
Well it's not as bad as it seems
Either way one of them has got to go
And if you take of my soul
You can still leave it whole
With the pieces of you own you leave behind

We came for salvation
We came for family
We came for all that's good that's how we'll walk away
We came to break the bad
We came to cheer the sad
We came to leave behind the world a better way

And I would give up everything
And if you were to come up clean
And see you shine so bright in a world of woe
And they may pay us off in fame
But that is not why we came
And if it compromises truth then we will go

We came for salvation
We came for family
We came for all that's good that's how we'll walk away
We came to break the bad
We came to cheer the sad
We came to leave behind the world a better way

Hi James!

I wanted to post this publicly so everyone could read it.  I just can't express my gratitude enough to you for writing and sharing this wonderful piece of musical art with us.  I've been waiting to tell you for a looooong time how much that song means to me.  It just speaks to my heart in a way that everyone here can relate to, I know.  I listened to it every day, all day for weeks before the festival last year.  I have every word memorized.  It makes me cry every time, but I don't give a sh*t because it sums up everything that I'm feeling inside.  I can't wait to meet you so I can show my appreciation in person.  Thanks for the special song, James.  I can't wait to hear the extended version!   And the BEST part is that I got lucky enough to score Town Park tickets for the first time ever, so now I can experience first-hand what you are singing about!!  I encourage everyone to listen to "Packing for Telluride", especially the newbies.  Live it, learn it, love it, because this is what the Telluride Bluegrass Festival is truly all about.   Much love to you, James!! Flower

I have been learning "The Mountain" by Steve Earle:

I was born on this mountain a long time ago
Before they knocked down the timber and strip-mined the coal
When you rose in the mornin' before it was light
To go down in that dark hole and come back up at night

I was born on this mountain, this mountain's my home
She holds me and keeps me from worry and woe
Well, they took everything that she gave, now they're gone
But I'll die on this mountain, this mountain's my home

I was young on this mountain but now I am old
And I knew every holler, every cool swimmin' hole
‘Til one night I lay down and woke up to find
That my childhood was over and I went down in the mine

There's a hole in this mountain and it's dark and it's deep
And God only knows all the secrets it keeps
There's a chill in the air only miners can feel
There're ghosts in the tunnels that the company sealed
