Hi all!  Curious what the process is to line up in the Sunday before Rockygrass.  This year we plan on leaving a car in line as early as possible.  Any idea what that process is like?

With the addition of the Planet Bluegrass Ranch and the closing of Bohn Park I'm sure there will be major changes.
We'll have to wait for an official statement to come from Planet Bluegrass. Thumbs Up

I would assume they will keep a 'lottery' style system similar to what they did last year.  Everyone showed up from 4-5 on Sunday and were given a number between 1-100(?) as they pulled in.  Cars got in line and then condensed the line at 5.  I think we pulled 31 and ended up as 29 last year.

Where does the Lottery part come in to play?  You mention everyone getting a number, is that a random number or in order that you came in?  Sorry for my confusion.

Last year cars got a random number, much like the number line for entering the venue, just on a smaller scale.  I'd guess there were about 75 cars there on Sunday last year.  Owning the land now, the system could be different, but I thought last year's process was the best in the last few years we've been parking on Sunday.

Awesome thanks for clearing that up!  I reached out to PB and they said they should be releasing details soon.

From the PB website:

On-Site Camping Line Policy
Important changes for 2018: Due to restrictions on use of the new Planet Bluegrass Farm property and ongoing construction at Bohn Park, we have made several major changes to the vehicle lineup for the RockyGrass On-Site Campground.

The 2018 RockyGrass On-Site Campground opens at 6pm on Thursday, July 26. Vehicles that arrive prior to 6pm may lineup their vehicles at the Planet Bluegrass Farm (located 0.3 miles northwest of the On-Site Campground on Highway 36).
Vehicles may not arrive at the vehicle lineup earlier than 9am on Thursday, July 26 (the same day the On-Site Campground opens).
To avoid a line prior to 9am on Thursday, vehicles arriving at the Planet Bluegrass Farm anytime between 9am-Noon will receive a lottery number assigning them a random spot in the On-Site Campground vehicle lineup (see below). We highly encourage you to arrive after 10am to help us disperse the arrivals and avoid delays. (Vehicles arriving after Noon will proceed to the end of the lineup.)
If you plan to arrive in Lyons a day or more before the On-Site Campground opens, you will need to find your own camping/lodging. No overnight camping is allowed at Bohn Park, at the Planet Bluegrass Farm, or on public streets in Lyons.
If you were planning to arrive prior to Thursday, July 26 we encourage you to explore many of the beautiful camping options in our area including Lavern M Johnson Park in Lyons, Camp Dick, Pawnee Campground at Brainard Lake, and numerous campgrounds around Estes Park.
We realize these changes may impact some Festivarians' travel plans. But after decades of experience managing these campground vehicle lines, we believe most Festivarians' will appreciate the simplicity and fairness of this new system. We welcome your feedback at planet@bluegrass.com or 800-624-2422.

Initial Line-up Procedure (Lottery!)
To discourage any arrivals to the Planet Bluegrass Farm prior to 9am and to make this initial lineup process as stress-free and fair as possible, we will be using a "random lottery" procedure for the initial lineup from 9:00am - Noon on Thursday morning, July 26th. (If you arrive after Noon on Thursday, you will simply proceed to the end of the line.)

Vehicles arriving at the Planet Bluegrass Farm between 9:00am and Noon on Thursday, July 26 will be given a random lineup number, similar to our nightly tarp line numbers. (These numbers will truly be random, so someone arriving at 10:00am will have the same chance of receiving a low lineup space as someone arriving right at 9:00am.)
Planet Bluegrass staff will assist vehicles in proceeding to the marked parking space corresponding to their lottery number.
To help disperse the arriving vehicles and avoid delays for everyone, we urge you to arrive after 10:00am.
At Noon, the random lottery will end. All vehicles will be moved forward to close any gaps from unused lottery numbers. At this time, Planet Bluegrass staff will exchange lottery numbers for your actual spot in the final vehicle lineup.
All vehicles arriving after Noon will receive the next available space at the end of the line.
Please remember: Vehicles MAY NOT ARRIVE EARLIER THAN 9:00AM at the Planet Bluegrass Farm on Thursday, July 26th (and with this lottery procedure there is absolutely no benefit to arriving any earlier!). YOUR VEHICLE WILL BE TICKETED & TOWED IF YOU PARK ALONG HIGHWAY 36.

If you arrive before 9:00am, we highly recommend you relax and grab breakfast at one of Lyons' coffee shops or restaurants and casually drive over to the Planet Bluegrass Farm well after the 9:00am opening.

2018 On-Site Campground Load-In Procedure
Due to concerns from the Sheriff's Department, each vehicle may only contain as many occupants as available seat belts. Vehicles with more people than the vehicle can safely transport, will be pulled from the line until each passenger is removed from the vehicle (or wearing a seatbelt).
At 6:00pm on Thursday, vehicles will be escorted from the Planet Bluegrass Farm to the On-Site Campground on the Planet Bluegrass Ranch. Vehicles must remain in order. Vehicles that arrive at the Ranch out of order will not be allowed entry into the campground.
Vehicles will be admitted to the Ranch in order according to their number. Don't lose your number or you will have to go to the end of the line!
All roads are one-way and the speed limit is strictly 5 MPH. For the safety of everyone PLEASE DRIVE SLOWLY.

So I just got off the phone with PB and this policy JUST came out.  I can't say I am a big fan of the changes as I planned on dropping my car off on Sunday as has been the case in years past.  I also brought up the issue of people walking in and she mentioned that they don't let walkers in to On-site until after about 100.  Which led to my next question if you pull anything after 100 if it wouldn't behoove you to just walk in.  She mentioned she was going to bring this up and get back to me.  No matter what policy in place I am sure there will be unhappy people but this is a HUGE change.  I hope it works out.

Is the car lineup only for those with a camping AND vehicle pass? Or, are all campers permitted to bring in a car with their gear and then park in the designated parking areas?

The lineup will be for everyone (parking pass or not) for onsite camping.

I find the changes confusing.  After I get a number between 9-Noon, I must stay/leave my car or lose my place?  If I want to move up I have to also be there at Noon?  I have a vehicle pass but can't get the camper until 5pm.  Can I swap the car I have sitting there with the car that is towing the camper ?
