Hi,

I think maybe this question has already been asked, but I couldn't find the thread on it, so I'm going to ask again (apologies)...

We are camping in Town Park for the first time, and we are wondering where we should camp within Town Park.  We are looking for information on the different areas of the park (i.e. quiet area, partying area, shade vs. sun area, closest to water, closest to trees, vibes, etc).  I'm sure there are lots of opinions out there and we'd love to hear them.  So where is the best place to camp within Town Park?

Thanks for your help,
MAB

Hey,

Thanks so much for your help!

Yes - we are getting there on Saturday (6/14) and will have two tents.  What is the preserve?  And what do you mean by historical camps?

Sorry to be so new at this...

Cheers,
MAB

Can you (or anyone) tell me a little more about the Preserve?  Do these spots go quick?  What are the advantages of this area?

Thanks!

MAB,
I'll be there Friday getting my running shoes warmed up for Saturday land rush into Bear Creek Preserve.  Ask around for me and I'll show you the ropes.

The Bear Creek Preserve is actually a part of Town Park that the Town of T-ride has preserved as "open space" so for the rest of the year, it's just a park to stroll in.  But during Bluegrass, it's a park to stroll and camp in (tents only)!  It's a beautiful, woodsy area surrounding the actual, physical campground.  There are 2 parts of non-campground that open to camping on Saturday - the Preserve area around the waterfall and what's known as the "Primitive Area" which is across the bridge to the north.  Both are heavily shaded spots with lots and lots of great tent/camp sites.

The Primitive Area might be a bit quieter, but who wants quiet?  Tent sites in the Primitive Area are a bit more spread out, so the chances of rowdy neighbors screaming "FESTIVAAAAAL" at all hours are slightly lessened, from around 100% to about 99.5%.

There are many traditional and historical camps in the Preserve area, such as my camp, Camp Totally Lit.  There's also Run-a-Muck, Town Hall, Steamboat Crossroads, Tiki Bar, MASH Tent, The Professor's Camp, etc.  These  camps will set up on Saturday while the camps in the actual campground are already being set up  Most folks try to respect these historical camp sites and, although each one takes up a good bit of kitchen and common area pickin and seating space, each camp hosts a large number of people.  And there's always room around or in all those camps for new friends and family.  I'll have 20 people in Camp Totally Lit, all arriving at different times, but if you need a home, we'll make or find room for a few more tents.  You just have to be able put up with music and rowdy fun 24-hours a day for a whole week.

Lookin' forward to meeting you!  Travel safe

MAB -

Don't be offended in anyway if, when you ask someone if there's room for your tent, you are told "Not really", either.  Like Bevin said, a lot of times these camps are expecting upwards of 20 people... trust in the overall festivarian spirit and ssk for a suggestion as to where you might camp.   You will find that everyone is helpful.  You'll know you've found your new group of friends when you find a place to put your tents!

If quiet is a concern... go to the primitive area!  That is the only place where you even stand a chance, in my opinion, at least in Town Park.  The primitive area is across the bridge from the main campground.  Ask anyone for directions if you have a problem... but it IS easy to find!

Also, some where on here is a poll for "family camping"... if you're looking for that, vote!  IF you actually want to avoid quiet camping and want to get in the thick of it... hold on to your knickers baby, 'cause you're in for a BUMPY RIDE!!!

I think the poll was taken off last week, and Planet Bluegrass sent out an email that there will be family camping (Quiet, no booze or tobacco) at the highschool in town.
FYI - If you camp by the waterfall in Town Park it drowns out the noise but is much much colder at night!
