Hi,
We are first-timers at Telluride and are camping at Town Park.  I'm looking for information on  the bathroom and shower facilities.  Fees?  Hours?  Etc.

Thanks for your help,
MAB

Ron has it right - cold showers are free.  Hot (or warm) water costs 8 quarters.  Quarters only.  Pile 'em up and stuff 'em in your toiletries bag.  There's no change machine.  Nickels and dimes won't work.

There are 2 bath houses in Town Park - one in the middle of the campground, and one beside Warner Field.  Both are open 24/7.  They get cleaned once per day, around 6:30am.  Some people bring extra soap/shampoo and leave it around for communal use.

Some people use the a/c outlets in the bathrooms for recharging their party light batteries, cell phones, taper batteries, camera batteries, etc.  Some people bring extra extension cords and power strips for this purpose and leave them plugged in all weekend for everyone to use.  Try not to spray water from the sink on all those wall chargers!

Some folks make a kettle of coffee each day and sit it on the bench outside the bathhouse in the morning for all to enjoy.  Those are really nice people (thanks, Gerry!)

I think the best time to take a shower is in the middle of the night.  Hot water gets scarce when the shower line gets long.

There are also showers at the High School, which is a short shuttle ride away from Town Park.

It's $2. or $3.00, I think.  $$ goes to the PTO or some kids organization.  Sometimes the kids sell muffins and/or other stuff for the morning.  Showers are in the boys & girls locker rooms, there is plenty of room, and at least as I can remember, they are almost always hot.

Kind of a hike from Town Park, but the shuttle is quick.  Or ride your bike.

And know this... when you run out of hot water... it is just short of PAINFUL!  Especially if you suddenly throw you eyes open, getting soap in them, jump around in a modified stationary panic with eyes stinging and end up falling through the curtain, blinded by the soap, tangled in towels, clothing, curtain and the like...

Yes... I know this from experience.  I hate soap in my eyes... almost as much as I hate ice cold water when I'm all soapy and only half awake.

But I love me some Telluride, Town Park and clean toes for toe jobs!

Does anyone remember how many showers there were at the Warner Field Bath House?

Thanks,

I think there are 3 common men's showers in the red bath house.

I almost ventured over there by Saturday as the bath house in the center of Town Park had limited/no hot water for Thursday and Friday, all day, per the people I spoke with.  By Sunday it was running well as in past years.

Matt

P.S. Isn't it really a Town Park bath house that we share with Warner Field?    Wink

Do you think that next year we could put in some low flow shower heads and drop the price to $1?

Thanks all for the info!

I wonder if the no hot water issue, only occurred in Town Park, or happening in Warner Field too.

Doesn't that happen every year?
