Hey Everyone!!!!!!!!  Wave My husband and I and our 4 year old will be heading out to the Telluride Bluegrass Festival from Pennsylvania.  We are taking a road trip cross country and one of our special stops will be for TBF.  We will be staying in Ouray and I was interested in the best way to get to the festival from there.  I assume we will be spending most of our time near the family tent.  Also feel free to share any tip and tricks.  What time is best to get up and head over (on Thursday)?  Anything we should absolutely haul over with us besides sunscreen, water, hats, a blanket and earplugs....  Thanks in advance fellow Festivarians!!!   Flower

In a word: early. It’s about an hour drive one-way from Ouray to Telluride. The road into town will be barricaded, so each day you’ll park at the mountain village garage and take the gondola into town, and then walk to Town Park for the festivities. Assume another 30-40 minutes for that process.

Since you won’t have access to your vehicle during the day, you’ll want to bring everything you need for the varying temps throughout the day, including your summer weather clothes and cold-weather gear. Layers will be your friends and will ensure everyone is happy. Welcome to TBF!

Allow yourself plenty of extra time. Lots to gawk at on the drive from Ouray. Are you only going for Thursday? If so you'll probably want to be there for the full day.

Wow!  Thanks so much, this is very helpful.  Any idea how early in the morning the gondola starts taking people into Telluride? So excited!  We are just doing Thursday for the music festival but we'll probably head into Telluride on Tuesday and just have some family fun.  Thanks again!  Cheers

The gondola will be up and running well before you get there.  The winter times are posted right now, starts at 6:30 AM, so I'd guess something similar for summer months.  Check the barricade on Tuesday before fest.  The road into town might still be open that early, which means you can park in town to do your wandering that day.
