Just purchased tickets for my first ever TBF!  Super excited.  Now what to do about lodging?  Is it better to stay in town or in the mountain village (is that what it's called?)  Rooms/condos etc are going fast.  Any advise is appreciated!

Camping is pretty fun, and way cheaper.

Staying in town is preferable in my opinion, but more expensive with far less options.  If you stay in Mountain Village there are many nicer options that cost less. The only draw back of staying in MV is you have to take the free gondola to and from the festival.  Gondola ride is not very far and quite beautiful only bad part is it can get very busy at times and can sometimes be a pain hauling your gear for the festival back and forth.

Good choice coming to TBF, either way you will have a blast and you cant go wrong.

Agreed. The other pain with the Gondolas is around the ending of nightgrass shows tending to fail within 15 minutes or so of the Gondola shutting down.

HOWEVER, there are no bad places to stay. Camping, Staying in town, staying in mountain village...they're all a blast in their own right.

Welcome!

So that is exactly what I was wondering. It stops short of night grass and you have to leave early.

I don't completely understand the last few posts here, so sorry if I'm repeating info, but I think there are a few decisions to make:

1) Do you want to camp or condo?

Camping is cheaper, but condo has its benefits for sure. Camping is most coveted at the two closest grounds to the festival, which sell out during lottery last month but you can sometimes find passes from people who have not been able to make the trip work. Other camping is further out, and though there are free shuttles, in some ways they have the same drawbacks as condo'ing in Mountain Village with regard to hauling your things.

2) If you choose to condo, in town or Mountain Village?

In town is typically closer and offers an easier in/out at the festival grounds, but, as others have said, it's more expensive.

Honestly, my family and I have never been able to pull the trigger on staying up the mountain because we like the Nightgrass shows and don't want to need to leave them early. That's our decision, of course. We also like being able to load up a wagon and get all of our things easily to the grounds and back. But the $$ is definitely more in town, and we had to attend several times and get the lay of the land for ourselves before being committed to a condo in town each visit. Part of this has to do with my parents and their not wanting to camp, but also the fact that I have a six year old who does not want to spend all of each day at the festival, so the nearby access is important because we often go back and forth.

Basically, all of the options offer pretty easy festival access, with some easier/closer than others for a more premium price; just think about what your means are and what is available (i.e., if you're renting a condo, but it's all the way on the opposite side of town from the festival grounds, it might not be *that much* easier than Mountain Village, and it will almost certainly be a lot more expensive) and you probably won't make a wholly wrong decision.

Well a poke and a joust to you to Mr Z. So serious, where have all the flowers gone? LOL

Geesh.  I think the needs for being close change after time.

I have camped it was fun but hard on the body . 4 days of dancing and camping. Fun as hell but exhausting.
I insisted for years centerup front and  close was always THE best for sound but actually it is farther back.

Our needs change, kids and stuff. Location strategy changes with each new year.

So sleeping away from town to me now in a condo not camping sounds appealing. Gettin' a tad older and not really attending Night Grass much so the ride home is doable....

I like to swim and hike and fish a few hours each day and cook. I hate to eat out.

Good thing we all seek something different at different times.

Sorry was curious about ever getting stuck in the valley with no way up to the condo. That was my original answer seeking question.

seriously. LOL

I can move this to another topic if you wish.

So get this.  I scored the last available room at the New Sheridan but it comes with a catch.  It is right beside the Opera House and VERY LOUD.  So did I just score the best room in Telluride or the worst?

Doesn't matter BECAUSE I'M GOING TO TBF!!!
