Hi

I got lucky in the lottery and scored a pair of tickets with Town Hall camping passes for 2018. I'm a total newb for Telluride but am well experienced with music festivals and camping in general.

Because Colorado is too far away for me to drive, I will be travelling from my home in eastern Canada by plane (probably into Denver and then rent a car?).  I am looking into the possibility of renting or purchasing some camping gear when I arrive in Colorado (either in Telluride, Denver or some place in between). Any suggestions for vendors to check out or any other advice along this line would be much appreciated.

If anyone has advice/tips for travellers from way out of state, I'd love to hear it.

Thanks,

-Gray

Check with REI - Some of the stores rent out gear.

You might also make a post in the Gear Share section of the forum.

A lot of festivarians bring extra stuff or have extra stuff for those in need, and you'll meet a new friend at the same time. Thumbs Up

Hi Gray,

You got Town Park tickets, one of the things that matters is when you plan to arrive (trust me, it matters).

So you've got some options (in no real order):

If you have decent, lightweight gear- the Telluride post office is immediately adjacent to Town Park and you could mail yourself a box, general delivery.  Check with Telluride PO to make sure this is viable.

Some REI stores rent gear during the summer, might want to check with REI Denver.  There are many other Denver sporting good retailers too.

Telluride has sporting good stores, but you will be a motivated customer and pay a premium, but you could ship your new gear home.

You may want to see if someone(s) on this forum would loan/rent you some equipment, depending on your needs and your/their arrival.  I think I have seen almost every camping thing imaginable in TP at one time or another, including the occasional camping equipment junkie that might have some spares.

Wow, there's a Gear Share section?  That's great...

Todays modern ultralightweight camp gear doesn't take up much space. If there's two of you flying you ought to be able to fly with a large assortment of the main gear you'll need for shelter, sleeping, and cooking. Then you would only have to pick up a few extra comfort items such as tarps, coolers, chairs etc... I like the idea of General Delivery, I've used that before, be sure and check how many days they will hold it before returning to sender. Guess a lot of option depend on if your being a minimalist or looking to have the kitchen sink. Campmor, REI, and others have online shopping and you have time to score some deals on decent low weight, low bulk gear. Hopefully you won't have to buy and discard it afterwards. If so theres an area in town in Telluride for distributing stuff to give away. Luckily you have plenty of time.

Greetings, OttawaGray!  While you could rent or ship some gear, let me just invite you and your friend to camp with Kamp Duk Tape and we'll happily set you up with a few of the things that are harder to fly with.

We've hosted travelers from Canada and the UK in the past and welcome newbies to the Town Park scene, and we have an "open tarp policy" of inviting international travelers to join us in Town Park.  I was thinking of posting a 2018 invitation to any international festivarians, but you beat me to it!

We can supply you with a roomy tent, a pair of camp/festival chairs, and some sleeping pads, and I probably even have a couple of really warm sleeping bags you could use.  That would eliminate some bulky or otherwise expensive gear and should make your travels much easier.

In case you're wondering, we have references for doing this in the past, lest you worry that you'll have to sacrifice a festi-virgin to the festi gods in exchange.  We won't even expect you to buy all the beer!

Feel free to shoot me a PM if you're interested and we can go from there.  Everyone on this forum will be happy to answer all of your questions and make sure you know what to expect when you arrive.

So welcome to Town Park and the best festival on earth!   Cheers

Correct.  I think you have to make a certain number of posts (maybe 5) before the PM function becomes available.

Sounds like you might already have my email address but respond to this post enough times and you'll be able to PM me directly.
