Well this is my very first TBGF and I am super pumped, but I am totally confused about the line situation. When does the line start? Is it for the duration of the festival or just for that day? I have only been to festivals that camping is onsite. I am camping at Illium, do I need to get to there super early?

Also, what are the port-a-potty situations like? are they a ways away from our actual campsites? Could I bring a composting potty with me?? is this cool? How close are we to the River? and can I bring my solar shower and shower in the river or close to it? I don't want to be rude and have lots of water get around my fellow campers. And the showers don't open until Thursday... We are getting in on Tuesday... is another site where showers would be available?

Seriously....new to this!!!

Hey. Not totally sure about the line questions, but from what I can tell if you want a tarp up close each day you better get in line pretty early, guessing 5-7am. Otherwise looks like a single person, or couple can get fairly close without being there at the but crack of dawn. We are camped at Illium too, and getting there early also. I plan on using the river to "freshen up" until the showers are operational. Also wednesday we plan on going to Ridgeway to some hot springs and probably shower there before returning for YMSB first grass. 23 days till we leave!

The line for the tarp run starts all over again every morning.  I don't know how early you need to be to get to the front of the line because I've never gotten in line before 6 am.  However, I can tell you that getting in line at 7 am will not put you in the front (at least not the times I've been in line that early).

Yes Ma, we try and float or pack the Buffalo at least once a year!!! It is my "happy place" as well!!!! I always tell folks that however beautiful a place is it just never has that magic that the Buffalo River has! I lived in Fayetteville for many years, and am originally from Tahlequah, OK. Grew up bushwacking the Boston Mountains! Where you camping Ma?

Wave. We stayed at Mary E last year.  The portajohns were fairly plentiful.  I guess we were about 50' or so from a group of 10 toilets.  Don't expect to be close to the river.  You'll be close enough to hear it but there is a lot of brush and rocks along most of the bank in the camping area.  You can walk down to it but not very practical area to pitch a tent.  I did bring my own shower rig which worked out very nicely.  I used two 5 gal jugs (from Walmart) for my water supply and just filled them as needed.  In town at gas station before the water tank arrived at at the campground on Wednesday (?).  The gray water wash off from shower was not a problem.  Mary E has a lot of space so you won't have to be right on top of others.  There were only 2 of us showering and the water lasted us half the week.  There are no showers at Mary E.  your other option is to take shuttle to Telluride and use showers at the High School.  For a fee.  For showers before Thursday I really don't know if there are any other options.  Some brave folks did splash off in the river tho.

There are showers in town park so if you come and visit early in the week bring your towel and stuff and a dozen quarters. Your neighbors and tentmate will appreciate...
