This year my parter and I will be attending TBGF as part of a larger group and for the first time would like to put down a tarp on the lawn. In regard to the tarp run:

1. How does the number system work? Are numbers given to people in line in the order that they are in line or are the numbers random? What time are the numbers passed out?

2. On the festival website, it mentions that "camping" in line is not allowed, yet we still see people "camp" in line. What gives?

3. We are camping at Lawson Hill. We plan on taking the first shuttle at 7am to try to get in line so we can get a tarp spot. What kind of tarp spot can we expect to get?

Thanks all! Looking forward to another fun year :)

Hi Andrea and welcome  Wave

1. Numbers are given out at an unspecified time, though usually 6ish, and in the order in which folks are in line. You must be present and in line to get a number.

2. You aren't setting up camp in line. Most people use a chair to hold their spot when they use the restroom etc. They may also have a sleeping bag or some other means of staying warm at night. Some of the first people will be sitting in line day and night, that may seem to look like they are camping.  huh

3. You won't be in line until 7:45, so you will be pretty far back, but I would think as long as you aren't trying for the front section, you'll be fine.  Thumbs Up   Someone else may have better info on what to expect at that time.

Less than 5 weeks to go, woot wooot!!
 Cheers

Hey Andrea!

My two cents added to PP's excellent info:

1. Times often vary from day to day to keep us guessing. Really any time between 5:20-6:45ish!

2/3.  Officially there is no camping, but yes, some spend the entire night. Most early line sitters are there before 5:00. You can still get under 150 by 5:00 but by 7:45, my guess us you'll probably be 200-300 or higher, especially by Saturday. That's ok though- Like PP offers, there's plenty of room, especially if you're ok behind the walkway break. I think the numbers go all the way to like 600+. It also depends on your tarp size. Since it's only two of you, you might even still find those golden slivers between the big tarps up front...

So fun!

Are the numbers for shade tents the same as the main tarp line numbers? If you get a number at 6:30, do you then still have to stay in line or do you get to leave after you have a number until gates open?

You can leave after you get a number.

Then return before the gates open to get in line according to your number.

I heard they are doing it differently this year, more like Rockygrass where folks will get a RANDOM number and wherever they are in line to get it will have no bearing. Not sure how that went today but I'll find out and post unless someone else can chime in.
