We are considering taking the day off Saturday to relax. Mostly because there's not much happening on the main stage that is interesting to us. We've seen YMSB more times than I could possibly count, and since Jeff left it just isn't the same. Also seen Sam Bush Band many many times, and since the Telluride house band is playing Thursday night, with Sam I'm guessing we won't miss anything we haven't already heard a dozen times. Not interested in Dispatch at all. Fireball Mail is really the only act I'm interested in for Saturdays line-up.

So with all that being said, I'm hoping Saturday nights nightgrass has something much more interesting, like The Punch Brothers, or Elephant Revival would be great!!! Fingers crossed.

I have. She's alright, but a little too countryish for my tastes. I live in Oklahoma, I can't walk down the road without someone like her playing every other club in town.

It is a bluegrass and country festival. At least that is what the sign says! Cheers

I have no real problems with country music, except that most of the music labelled as country these days is'nt anything near what I'd call country. Luckily for me there's really not much country music at this years fest. I'm most excited about Tim OBrien, Hot Rize, Punch Brothers, Elephant Revival, and the Thile shows. Looking forward to checking out Greensky for the first time, and the Cleverly's are real fun, just hoping they don't do the same set I've already seen. Their pure comedy genius. Folks like Margo Price and Sarah Jaroz I'd much rather see in a small club than a festival setting. We're about 5 minutes away from the Cain's Ballroom, The Woody Guthrie Center/Guthrie Green amphitheater, and a half dozen small performance venues that get most the best folk and country acts from across the nation. Also our large venue the BOK won arena of the year award, and gets all the big acts. We're pretty lucky here in Tulsa. Have you ever listened to Jonathon Byrd? He's great! And one for sure I'd apply the country label.

I heard Jonathon Byrd several years ago. Like his music and his lyrics. I would not be complaining if he played at the festival. As an old fart, most of the people that played country music that I liked are long gone, and nothing's gonna bring them back. But I am always willing to give new artists a chance. There have been very few acts that I've ever seen here that I would actually call disappointing. Been coming there on and off for 30 years. That's one of the best things about the festival, you get to hear new acts, new music for the first time. Actually, one of my favourite acts of the festival is waking up early Saturday AM and watching the finals of the band competition. The energy there is unmatched. If you watched Fireball Mail last year, you may not know that the banjo player, Phil Easterbrook, actually played the festival in 1980 as part of the Reasonable Band. 36 years later his band wins the competition. Chalk one up for us old guys! I'm not a big Dispatch fan either, would have preferred to see Salmon in that slot again, but I am sure there are Dispatch fans out there that will be happy to watch them. Personally, I am hoping for Greensky Nightgrass on Saturday. Punch Brothers usually get the Sunday night slot, which makes it difficult to pack up and get out of town on Monday AM.

Wave You could probably expect a Greensky NightGrass on Saturday at The Palm? Punch Bros. will be, forever and again (until they don't want to) on Sunday, @ the SOH. Just an opinion.  Cheers

Todd, are you a fan of Parker Millsap? I was his emergency "guitar tech" on his Guild, last time he played The Turf Club here in St Paul. Great time!  Thumbs Up

Swander, I have been playing Parker on high rotation here! He is terrific and I think the festival will love him. Never heard of him before but that is the magic of the festival, eh?

Todd - you sound exactly like my friend! Same views about the line up, exactly. You will love Greensky btw. And Fruitition are pretty damn good.

And, because it is still gorgeous here, we are being spoiled at the moment. Going to walk across the road ( literally) to see Martha Wainwright tonight. Then we see Rhiannon Giddens, Adele, Bonnie Raitt, Mavis Staples, Patti Smith....Australia, it might be a long way away but we do hear some great music

Peace and love

Yeah I like Parker. If you like him, have you heard John Fulbright? If not check him out! He's one of the best singer songwriter multi instrumentalists coming out of Oklahoma right now. His last album was nominated for a grammy couple years ago. Thanks for the advice on the nightgrass. Are there ever any nightgrass bands that aren't on the main stage schedule?

I like Fruition. I'm good friends with the folks in Elephant Revival, and they play together a lot, especially Bridget. My good buddy lives in Austrailia and is always telling me about amazing shows he see's. But recently he's moved around Darwin and says the entertainment has been lacking! ha. I am excited about Greensky, all my friends love them, they'll be here in Tulsa in about a month, but I've blown my concert stash on Roger Waters the week before Telluride, and Trey Anastasio in our oldest concert venue Cain's Ballroom! In fact the Cain's maybe the oldest venue thats maintained being a music venue in the US, not certain on that though so don't quote me!

Really? I spent a lot of time at the Fillmore in SF, I thought they had the record? But maybe not.

Darwin is pretty out of the way but the festival up the coast at Easter has an extraordinary line up, we are going, can't wait. I'm a big Patti Smith fan...amongst others.

Do NOT miss Greensky, they are my very, very favourite. I fly to US to see them, you go check them out in your home town! So jealous
