On this #FolksFriday we're very excited to announce our Friday night closer...

Andrew Bird
www.andrewbird.net
(Performing on Friday evening, August 19)

Andrew blew many of our minds with his Planet Bluegrass debut at the 2006 Folks Fest, electronically looping and layering his own masterful fiddle, guitar, glockenspiel, whistling, and vocals on songs that developed organically into abstract, third-person ruminations.  (His TED Talk, was aptly titled "A One-Man Orchestra of the Imagination.")

In the ensuing 10 years, he's taken a fascinating creative path: from the wildly popular indie-folk of "Armchair Apocrypha" and "Noble Beast" to more experimental works like "Echolocations: Canyon" (recorded inside the Coyote Gulch canyons in Utah).  Then in 2014 he serenaded us acoustically from the Telluride Bluegrass stage with an old-timey quartet gathered around a single microphone - featuring fellow singer-songwriter Tift Merritt.

With his recently released "Are You Serious?" Andrew has made a personal, evolutionary leap - singing directly about his own life.  It's a a beautiful collision of broad musical imagination with confessional, honest songwriting. A gorgeous way to close our Folks Festival friday evening...

Here's a groovy stripped-down radio performance of "Capsized": www.youtube.com/watch?v=x8rnmTElzL0
