So, where would you go and who would you see if you had three days in June?

I have an opportunity to check out some great music and would appreciate advice from the Festivarians please.

Im flying into LA on 10th and have accommodation in Telluride from 14th, hurrah.

Here is my question. I'm about to sort out my itinerary and what i REALLY want to do is see some great music on my way to TBG.

I was going to go via Vegas but there isnt anyone playing there that i want to see and im not really a Strip type chick.

So, if you had a few days (11-13th June) where would you go and who would you see? Noting that i still need to get to Telluride by 14th......

Ps im desperate to see Allison Krauss who never tours Australia but she rarely posts gigs...and im a Greensky tragic so would happily go anywhere to see them....  Plus Punch Brothers are coming to my home town in August so that's covered.

Looks like Dylan plays Santa Barbara on Sat. June 11, if he's your cup of tea...

Not to mention 2 whole days between LA and Morrison while something else is going on in some little mountain town in Colorado somewhere.

Looks like Dylan plays Santa Barbara on Sat. June 11, if he's your cup of tea...

Not to mention 2 whole days between LA and Morrison while something else is going on in some little mountain town in Colorado somewhere.

The Santa Barbara Bowl is one of my favorite venues in LA ... not to mention there being an endless supply of In-N-Out's in So Cal.

If you were a driving lady (though I know you aren't) I would suggest hitting the National Parks around Moab, Utah.  Stunning stuff.

But since you're not a driver, maybe you should check out the possibilities of an AMTRAK train trip.  The train goes lots of different places, including getting you close enough to the Grand Canyon that you could just jump a tourist bus to get there.  Or cruise up along the Californian coast to San francisco or beyond.  Trains are great fun and you get to see so much more than you would at 20,000 feet.

This is GREAT feedback and ideas. Thank you so much. So, not going to Dylan - have seen him heaps and im more interested in seeing US bands i havent encountered before. I'm so blown away by the talent in your country. Still cant believe how no one in Australia has heard of Greensky but there you go.....as i said, this is a great dilemma to have ❤️❤️

Ps Rhiannon Giddens is touring here and absolutely enchanting the locals. A class act indeed

Hey Lesley,

I'm not aware of anyone notable, or soon to be notable, playing the region during those dates, but you could hardly go wrong spending a few nights in Durango on your way to Telluride.  It's a beautiful and very walkable town, and Durango seems to have a disproportionate number of excellent local bands - including lots of bluegrassy bands - for a town of its size.  There are several nice venues (The Balcony, Derailed Saloon, the Wild Horse, Ska Brewing, to name a few) that are downtown where you can see the local bands, such as The Scrugglers (sometimes the house band at Run-A-Muck) or Liver Down the River. 

And there's lots of other things to do during the day such as going rafting, riding the narrow gauge train to Silverton or making a day trip to Mesa Verde National Park.  Plenty of good restaurants, too. 

You could book a room at The Strater and soak up a little bit of the wild west before heading uphill to paradise.

2015 TBF Band Competition Finalists Running Out of Road also hail from Durango if I recall.
