The boards seem pretty quiet these days...the little kid in me says it's the calm before the storm. Might "make important line up announcement" be sitting on somebody's to-do list???? Do refresh links wear out? I sure hope not!

I know it's heavily debated, but I think that would be amazing. I've had my fingers quietly crossed since that unplanned Steve Martin and Edie set a few years ago. Bring 'em on I say!!

I'll spice things up a bit with my $-.02. I realize that musical tastes are subjective (however, we can all agree that Nickelback sucks, right? Can I get an amen?). Mumford played Telluride 2010-2011 and would have been back for another year/set if not for the unfortunate illness of one of the band members.

I loved them the first two years but didn't feel their sound evolved after that. I haven't listened to them this year (do they have a new album out?) so I'll need to see what they've been up to musically.

Anyway, I wish them the best but I'm not upset if they don't make it to Tride in the near future. Now, I do wish Tim O'Brien and Darrell Scott would become a permanent duo and play every year. Alas, it seems every five to ten is more likely.

Amen brother! Mumford was great, but bring me someone new and more challenging.

Read this thread earlier today and was just listening to/watching Slopes on youtube. I scroll through the comments for laughs sometimes, but never realized a Strength in Numbers reunion was so damn close to happening due to Mumford's cancellation.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TzTvsHiCswE

"To share a bit of craziness with you the last 24 hours. There was a last-minute cancellation of Mumford and Sons at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival this week due to a medical surgery on one of the members, and a call out for a "Strength in Numbers" reunion set this Thursday for a $100,000 fee to replace them. There was this mad dash of activity, apparently all five of us could have made it with some easy plan alterations. Since I don't play guitar and mandolin anymore and haven't for 15 years, I wanted great Nashville guitar player from my Thirty-Year Retrospective Bryan Sutton to play guitar on my tune "Slopes" - video link here with me playing guitar - (that I co-wrote with Bela Fleck). According to someone in the old group of five members, they had something against having a 6th guy join us even for the one song for the reunion set, and wished that I could just cover my "Slopes" piece on violin. I responded that I would be happy to play violin on it and take a solo on it for sure, but still think my composition was so guitar heavy and guitar driven, that it needed that instrument on that piece I wrote - or it should be struck from the set. Bryan would have just played the tar out of it! Evidently there were misunderstandings in this tiny span of time, and the show was dramatically pulled after I thought it was on for sure, and given to Steve Martin and Edie Brickell. Middle of the night phone calls dealing with the issues of new people to cover my old parts on mandolin like Chris Thile who was my suggestion for my tune I wrote with Sam Bush "Macedonia," (also featured on my Thirty-Year Retrospective) but having dissent in the old group membership on that too... anyway... I couldn't have these great young artists come up on stage and play my old parts for the show because of argument over preserving the five original members only in performing the set. The show was pulled by the promoters when they had word of the hassle ensuing. Who knows, it could be the last chance for a reunion of it. Admittedly reunions are tough to do, but this came within absolute nail biting distance! It would have been epic...!!! But too many cooks in the kitchen telling each other what to do and too little flexibility - all wanting the music to come off the best it can be - but with various ideas about how that could be accomplished... and it was gone right before our eyes in a flash. So.... at least we still get to enjoy the old films of those pieces. Thanks and things are back to normal! Hope you had a nice Father's Day! Mine was certainly unusual! But very glad of my kids who make life so wonderful and rich for me! Love, MOC"

Del's already announced his main-stage slot on Facebook.  Planet, please spill the beans before the rest of the artists beat you to it.  Wink

Ok, crazy stuff but......I recently heard Michael Stipe do a live set. He opened with his version of Neil Young's Old Man. Man, he was great. Ive never been much of a REM fan but i loved hearing Michael do a range of covers. He can sing but he is also terrific fun. Had everyone rocking. Can imagine him at Telluride, he has such a great attitude.

Ps next year is the fifty year anniversary of the San Francisco summer of love.. Makes me feel old but cannot wait to see what reunions it will bring. What a celebration it is going to be...

Peace and love to all the hippies and flower children

Let the fest begin!

Still waiting for Planet BG to pull out a REAL surprise, ala Janelle Monae.  It's that kind of artist announcement that I look forward to the most.

I look at it this way.  I'll see lots of great bluegrass at the fest every year.  Any bluegrass or near-bluegrass americana artist worth a damn will eventually get to the T-ride stage.  But the chance of me ever going to a Janelle Monae concert, or even having the chance to see her again is highly doubtful.  So I'm glad I got to see her last year!

Who will be this year's surprise?  I can't wait to find out!

Well then the Chances of Beyoncé, Bruno Mars and Coldplay making to the Town Park Stage are pretty slim too! Let's have then relive the Super Bowl Halftime show! Pirate

Hey John, let's get back on the Trombone Shorty Bandwagon! Damn he is going to be in Dover Delaware for the Firefly Fest. With Mumford and Sons! Hey maybe they could share a bus ride to telluride for a Sunday Night Closer!
