With all the newbies around this year, I thought some experienced Festivarians might like to offer up some Packing Advice, other than lay it all out, sort and pack.  giggle

Hi Aunty Hope,

my name is Suzanne I am travelling to the States for the first time from Sydney Australia and this will be my very first Telluride Bluegrass Festival.
I am volunteering for the festival and will be camping at Lawson. I was thinking this was a summer festival and was planning on getting a cheap tent and air mattress from Wal Mart, as I'm travelling for a month and this will be my only cold place. the idea of snow is a bit daunting.  Have you got any tips for an absolute newbie?

any advice would be much appreciated.
Cheers

Poor girl, I had the same idea! As another Aussie hoping to escape our winter, I have sadly come to the conclusion that we need to pack puffer coats, hats, thermals, long sleeve shirts, beanies, gloves PLUS jeans, shorts, thongs, bathers and sun hats. Plus sunscreen and a headlamp. I'd also bring a very warm sleeping bag and a good sense of humour. Good luck and meet you at the festival! Flower Flower
Ps the people on this forum are so lovely, warm and welcoming, we are going to have a blast!

Swander! Dammit Billy, I said "VERY GOOD CHANCE"! My disappointment in our continued scheduling conflicts is still lingering...but when I set foot in T'ride in a few short weeks...wait who was I talking to?!?

It is a summer festival but once the sun goes down or if a cold front moves in like the one right now it gets cold. If you're prepared your fine. And remember that two people stay warmer in a tent than one.

Sounds like we need to hook you up with some folks that always camp out at Lawson Hill!

Am I correct in guessing that you are traveling solo? Just finish Uni?

I'd say it's high time you cleaned out that closet. An older coat that you've been meaning to get rid of anyway, or an Opt shop coat, one that you can donate after fest! Leggins you don't care about anymore, those dead wooly socks that needed to go in the bin several years ago.

Just start thinking, "Hum, what can I donate in the States while I'm there?" Telluride has a donation center, commonly known as "THE FREE BOX".

Let me get back to you about the camping gear.

Tell me, Suzanne, is Telluride your first tour stop?
