A group of people will have one or more people designated to run the their groups tarp or tarps into the festival area. They line up early in the morning and are given a number, when they open the grounds they run and claim their space by laying down and staking the tarp. Some choose to run for the front to be right in front of the stage, while others stay further back so they and their friends can put several tarps together. That's about the gist of it with bagpipes and bluegrass playing in the background.

Sounds great as I am very particular to bagpipes as well as bluegrass!
what do random folk like myself who have never been here before do? do they line up with a little tarp?

If you're flying solo, I would suggest just hanging back and watch on day one. At this Festivaaaaal! you can meander around and sit on any unoccupied tarp. You'll make a new Festifriend from anywhere on the planet on every tarp you visit when they return. If you really want to see an act up close, just go up front and sit, then meander some more.
You can start on our tarp... it'll be the brown one, to the right of the sound booth, just down a bit from the RaM tarp, close to the Yellow Pirates, kinda close to the guy in the chicken suit, and right next to the blue tarp.  Thumbs Up
