Interest in Family Neighborhood for On-Site Camping?

Howdy!  First time with kids to a Planet Bluegrass event and thought I would put this out there.

Anyone interested in showing up early to create a family friendly camping neighborhood for the on-site camping?  Be super fun for kids and adults alike.  Though there is not a specific family area planned for on-site camping, if we were able to get a few interested folks to join me in lining up early, we could grab a spot.  Thoughts?

Hi 

My 7 year old daughter will be with me for RG this year.  I've only been to RG 3 times in the last 10 years, and I've never camped on-site before, so I'm not sure what to expect.  We will actually be there early for the Academy, and I'm hoping to meet new friends with kids 
I'd totally be up for the family friendly camping neighborhood!

I've camped onsite at least 3 years with my kids. It is loud, and I'm not sure you could avoid that at all. You will have neighbors that play all night, regardless. It might be tough to try and "organize" ahead of time, as line-up is as you arrive, and first come first served. I've often thought a spot further from outside line-up and towards the end of the campground might work, but there are sometimes a lot of campers who have been there for Academy the week before, and not a lot of spots open, together...if you knew someone staying the week before for academy, who could maybe reserve you a spot, that might work?

I've camped onsite for twenty years. Bethanik is right, onsite is crazy at night, every night. Our kids where raised with it so they know what to expect. We bring them ear plugs, but after running themselves ragid during the day, they rairly need/use them. If your kids need quiet, your in the wrong place.

1/2 or better of the property will be taken a week before the festival with the academy people. "Organizing" anything in the land rush is nearly impossible unless your in the first 15-20 car in line, with your whole group in tow

I guess I'm just happy that there will be other kids around the campground so my daughter can meet new friends    The last time I was at RG my daughter was 2... she did great.  And I will definitely bring earplugs; I actually use them sometimes too

I've done on-site the last 3 years, and IMO it is definitely NOT crazy.  I guess this opinion may be skewed a bit, since my frame of reference is RaM at TBG, but compared to Town Park, it's pretty tame.  The picking is the focus, and I very much enjoy falling asleep to that.

Still haven't found an on-site for Brett (the hub-ster), but we were just talking about the feasibility of him coming at all... he'll be in Ottawa until Wednesday, would have to get a flight to Denver on Thursday IF I can find him a ticket... which I'm sure I can once I get there.  But the real problem is finding a dog sitter for our Golden; our usual kennel is booked for that time    We will see...

Yeah, I was thinking that RG on-site couldn't be crazier than TBF and I would totally be fine with Rowan there

I would highly recommend bringing a white noise machine!  We have one that runs on batteries and couldn't do on-site camping without it.  Nice white noise and all that comes through is the base of folks jamming.  I miss out on the music but the kids can sleep.

It is true that it is difficult to organize anything, but I am confident your kids will have a gang of friends in no time. My kids are 11 and 8, and been at Rocky Grass every year since infancy, camping on site. At day's end, they are exhausted from playing in the river, running around and having a blast and have no problem sleeping. On-site is pretty family friendly in my opinion, though it is possible that they may hear occasional new vocabulary, see some liquor and smell a skunk on some occasions. Everyone is pretty respectful though and aware that kids are around. And after years of packing a grip of clothes for them, I've finally accepted that they really only need a couple swim suits and some pajamas. I highly recommend a wagon for small kids. For years, we converted the wagon to a bed for them when they got tired at the festival and just pulled them back at the end of the night! They are too big now but they live for Rocky Grass weekend and are psyched! Have a great time!

#1  Did you get a place in line ?  The campground line started at 4 last Sunday.  If you do not have a place in line it you will not have as easy of a time getting a camp spot.  You should get a place in line ASAP.

#2  In my opinion go to the right when you enter the grounds, in general the closer you get to the festival the more late night music.

#3  Rocky grass in general is very family friendly, we have camped onsite every year with our kids.  (we brought our daughter at 5 weeks old.)  We have had late night incidents where there were people talking out side our tent, or a couple arguing, or a baby crying all night, but we do not let these ruin the experience.  a white noise machine is a great idea.
