IPA = India Pale Ale
It has more bite to it and more alcohol
than your Fosters Lager.

 Cheers

Thank you for explaining.....  :)

Oh really, you think you have the best beer?

Nah, Yankee beer isn't that fab though my feelings might be affected by my experience in every US bar I've been to ...you know, I go into bars and ask for a beer and the barman always seems to say "bear. We got no bears here" ( yeah, funny the first six times...)

US beer is alright.......and

most Aussie beer is pretty boring.

I like a Corona but after coming back from Guangzhou on Friday I have one thing to say.

Tsingtao beer from China...THAT's a beer baby.

Aussie Fan,
I don't think he was saying an IPA was better than a Fosters, rather that it has more alcohol, and more bite, which is exactly what typifies an IPA.
Which are not american, by the way, they come from the old East India Company (english).  Hops and high alcohol act as a preservative, and helped the beer make the long journey to India maintaining freshness.
That being said, if you are visiting Colorado for the first time, I will point out that there are more breweries in this state, and we do brew some of the best beer in the world right here, as well as grow some of the best ganja too!

Speaking of beer...what are best breweries of the area.  I know all of the front range and good metro beers of Denver/Boulder?

Check out A Comprehensive Guide to the Breweries of Colorado for some good spots.
(although they don't list the locations)

Another list can be found at Colorado Craft Brews.
(Even they don't list Smugglers in Telluride which is great)

If you're driving up from the south, stop by Dolores Brewing.  I really like their beers!  Love their stout, and I don't usually drink stouts.  Their Bitter is also very good.  Everything is sold in 16 oz cans / 4-packs.  Only bad part is that they don't open until 4 pm.

Hey, thanks Greg! I was just teasing.
Ps I never drink Fosters, it's awful.

Will definitely try some cool Colorado brews 😃

http://www.beermapping.com/ is another good resource.  The number of breweries in CO is staggering and always growing.

Smugglers and Telluride Brewing are the locals you'll find most often in town, served and sold at various spots (in addition to at Smuggler's Pub).  Of course inside the fest it'll be up to whatever surprises New Belgium brings.

I loved the Telluride Brewing Bridal VeilRye when I was there a couple years ago. Hope that one is still in rotation around town!

Always looking for specific Colorado brews to look for when I'm in the area too--suggestions welcome!

PS are growler fills a thing around Telluride? Should I bring a couple of empties (or fulls that I could drink and then refill?)

The Telluride Rye Pale Ale is definitely still available around town.  I buy a case of it every time I visit.  Can't get enough of that stuff.  I think Telluride Brewing and Smugglers would be more than happy to fill a growler or 2.

As far as the bigger CO breweries are concerned, Odell beats the crap out of New Belgium. NB's only good beer is 1554. I mean, it's great that they help out PB, and I respect them for that, but they don't make the best beer (I had a good one-off from them at a bar, and the bartender told me it's "probably good because it's a collaboration").

I do agree to a point. I also really like Summer Bliss and Blue Paddle. They've had other great summer beers in the past, like Sommersault. There are a few other discontinued beers of theirs that I quite like, but I can't remember their names. Fat Tire is a good "I just want to walk in, grab a six pack and get out" kind of beer for those times I don't want to spend a half hour deciding what I want.

Personally, I hope they stick to just one IPA. It seems that bars the world over have over half their taps dedicated to IPAs, which I think is a shame. There's more to beer than hops. Of course, so long as they have Summer Bliss, excuse me, Summer Helles, I'll be happy.

I think it would be nice to have a session IPA too though. It's good to have the taste of an IPA with less alcohol when you are drinking a lot for a long time.
