Hello!
First-timer (w/tix for Thur/Fri) here who booked a campsite at Matterhorn for the week but am worried about that drive back late at night.  Considering bucking up and getting a hotel room (if one can be found) or hoping to just show up on Monday or Tue and find a spot to setup camp in town.  Hoping to get the following questions answered:
1.  Is there any taxi service (or locals looking for extra cash) to Matterhorn?
2.  Are there first-come, first-serve sights in town?  I saw something about a "primitive sight" on one of the threads.  If so, would I be able to get one if I show up on Tue around noon?
3.  Is it worth just dropping the cash for a hotel room?
4.  Do spots/rooms pop-up as we get closer to the date?
5.  Any sweet ideas for scanning craigslist for (rooms to rent, taxis, etc.)?

The only camping available in town is the official campgrounds offered by the Planet...Town Park, Warner Field, Lawson Hill or Mary E (Mary E is actually out of town but a shuttle will bring you to the festival). Since you are only doing two days you could purchase camping for Lawson Hill or Mary E, both of which are still available through the website. This way you could get shuttles to/from the festival and not have to worry about driving. And save a bunch of money because hotels in town, if any are still available, will not be cheap. So there is one option for you, good luck!

Unless you have a friend who lives in Telluride and would be willing to let you set up a tent in his/her backyard, there won't be anywhere to set up a tent that isn't an official campground.

Wave I believe the only campground available for ticket holders of less than a 4 day or all 4 single days is at Lawson Hill.  All the others require a 4 day or 4 single days, but if your tickets are at will call and you get a new one each day I'm not sure how they handle that. Bluegrass Brian can you clarify this please?

You can try calling some of the transportation companies in the Telluride area to see if they will pick you up at Matterhorn and take you back at night.

https://local.yahoo.com/CO/Telluride/Travel+Lodging/Taxi+Services

As Cindy Lou stated, the only Planet Bluegrass campground available for single day ticket holders is Lawson and hotels and condos will be difficult to find for just 2 days and will be in the $200+ a night range.

You can check the Lodging and Accommodation Sharing section of the forum to see if anyone has rooms to share.

The shuttle from Lawson to the fest is FREE/included in the price of you camping ticket.  Thumbs Up

1.  Is there any taxi service (or locals looking for extra cash) to Matterhorn?

Not sure about the status of taxi service, but my guess is that you'd probably have good luck by posting a ride request on the FB Group "Telluride Sweet Deals" ... I'm sure there'd be someone passing by Mattorhorn who'd take $5 for gas!

If you were to drive it, it's actually not too bad ... by the same token, it's still a drive you'd need to be mindful of re: not drinking much and wildlife.  Likewise, increased time/logistics re: parking in the TMV & gondola.  Normally, it'd take you about 20 minutes door to door if you were to drive directly to town, but you'll have to park in the TMV and take the gondola ... which will make your one way trip more like 45 minutes (or more if there are lines).

Lawson and Ilium both still have camping passes available on the Planet's website. You can get there easily by clicking on Planet Bluegrass on this page in upper right corner.
