YMSB - Big News

Yonder Mountain String Band returns to Colorado this summer to the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre Friday August 21st. We welcome our good friends Greensky Bluegrass along with special guests Fruition. This hometown celebration comes on the heels of their latest release, Black Sheep, scheduled for national release on their own Frog Pad Records at Telluride Bluegrass Festival on June 16, 2015.

I think you're right on. It doesn't have to be Greensky, necessarily, but they do need another big name to help move tickets.

Yonder's popularity has taken a huge hit. I don't think it's anything they can't regain, they're just going to have to work really hard and tour more, prove that they can still throw a good party without Jeff. They definitely proved it to me last summer. I'm sure there will be fans that have the opinion that it will never be Yonder without Jeff. There are fans that can never be won over. But there are still plenty of people who love them and will enjoy the show once they give it a chance.

You said it better, I didn't mean it had to be Greensky, but another popular band to move tickets. Greensky is on top of the world right now and a perfect choice. I haven't seen the new Yonder, but I'm sure it's grate, just different. For me, right now, I wouldn't go out of my way to see them. They played 20 minutes from my house a month ago, but for me it wasn't worth going out in a snow storm. I'll definetly jam out for their show at TBF. I'm wondering if they will still be doing the Wednesday night Throwdown or if PB is going to give it to someone else. Any thoughts?

I've thought about that, too. I know a lot of people think that the Wednesday night show should go to Greensky, which I wouldn't mind seeing at all. I'm not advocating for Yonder to be taken off Wednesday, but I wouldn't be too surprised to see it happen in the next few years. Personally, I'm enjoying Yonder more now than I have in the past several years. The band has a revitalized energy to them that really shows on stage.

I thought the same about Greensky, but I will still be trying to score tickets if it is Yonder. For awhile I wasn't listening to them because it made me sad, but I started to again lately and I realized most of my favorite songs weren't even Jeff songs anyway. I am excited to see the new Yonder. I'm down with change. If you look on the bright side, now we have two awesome bands to see instead of one.

I agree re Greensky who have become my number one favourite band this year. I'd pay for a full set

Greensky at the CC Wednesday night would definitely get me out of camp and up the hill! Their website only has one day scheduled in Telluride this year.  Makes me nervous. Their night grass shows have been my musical festi highlight the last 3 years. 

That said I don't think it would ever happen.

I saw Yonder twice on there recent cabin fever winter tour. The first show in Indianapolis was good, actually very good musically. But felt that they were missing a stage presence that Jeff used to provide. Allie and Jake were both good additions but just felt no quite right. A few nights later in Madison I left thinking that maybe was one of the best Yonder shows that I had ever seen, and that's over a hundred shows. Having Drew Emmitt as a guest helps but they are sounding as good as ever and they ripped the roof off the Barrymore that night. They have usually had co-headliners when at Red Rocks, Leftover Salmon or Railroad Earth so Greensky Bluegrass is not much different. See if I can make this show.
