Ok, excuse my ignorance, but I don't live in CO.  I'm told recreational use is now legal?  Does that mean you can partake at the festival?

Way way back in time, when the legality of pot was the stuff of fantasy, we were at TBF as usual with the whole family.  Our oldest son, maybe eleven or so, looked up with a quizzical look on his face, sniffed, and said "Mom?  Is that marijuana?"  "Yes, son, yes it is."  The only difference now is that instead of the teens and 20s being somewhat circumspect, we have the grizzled 50s and 60s lighting up all day long.  So have at it!

The law in Colorado is similar to laws on alcohol, meaning consumption in public is still illegal. You can get fined for smoking in public.

A couple of years ago my brother and his wife brought their 2 daughters who were under 10 years old.  Folks on the adjacent tarp politely asked if we minded them smoking a joint.  All we asked was that they be discreet about it.  And they were .... and had a great time.  Awesome tarp mates for the date, and very considerate of the parents and little ones around them.  Perfect festivarians ....

Perhaps it might take a bit of time for the greater population at large to accept pot in the same light as we do alcohol regarding public consumption; however, my suspicion is there are probably far more kids out there who cringe when they see an adult take a drink vs. a toke on a joint / bowl.

Smoke if you got it!  Definitely a lot better for everyone than booze, tobacco.

As someone mentioned above, there are families that attend the festival.  It never hurts to be discrete.

Please, be careful with edibles at altitude. They can and will raise your heart rate quite a bit.

Personally, I'd say it's more important to be careful with your edibles if you have kids vs. worrying about "being discrete" re: smoking it.   Edibles are virtually identical to "regular" candy/food & can easily be mistaken by children for such.

Again, I realize it can be a tough issue for parents to be open about using pot ... especially in some parts of the country which aren't as progressive ... but there are advantages to consider.  Perhaps in time.
