Me & Scuppers & the Mayor

Hey all you animal loving Festivarians!

Am thinking about bringing my little dog Scuppers to the Festival.  He is very small and very, very quiet and everybody just loves him.  Has been to several music festivals before and was always well behaved.  When we go to catch the music we leave him to guard our campsite and have never had anything stolen.

{ Truthiness disclaimer:  We never had anything stolen from our campsite before we started bringing Scuppers because Festival Folk are too kind for that sort of nonsense. }

It will take some planning to make this happen as we are flying from the East coast to Denver in a big jet airplane.  Any input is welcome. :dog

Greetings fellow dog lover!  Wave

Unfortunately, Fido cannot come to camp with you.  The Planet has a strict no-pets policy in camp/in the festival.  Other campers have boarded their pets in town during festival - check previous boards for recommendations.   PBG has a few listed on their FAQ page, too.  http://www.bluegrass.com/telluride/faq.html#1057617195

:dog

See you in June!

The only dogs allowed in camp during the festival are service dogs, sorry.

Thanks for the replies and advice.  Scuppers isn't really a service dog, but he does make everyone happy.  We have taken him to a few festivals that had a no pet policy and management has always allowed him to hang around the campsite or accompany us to the music meadow.

For those who have flown with their pets I'm hoping he could just ride on my lap.  I know he would not cause any problems.

Skubes, you would love Scuppers, he's a real party animal, pardon the pun.

As far as flying, it's not really that long of a flight, I think he would be OK in my carry on.  Do they x-ray your carry on nowadays?  That could be a problem.

Be that as it may, it's immaterial to the fact that you won't be allowed to bring him into camp/festival grounds.  The rule isn't on a dog-by-dog basis, and it is enforced at both the festival gates and by the camp hosts.  Just trying to do you a solid by letting you know if you show up with your dog without other arrangements, you'll be up shit creek when all the local kennels are full and your pooch can't stay at camp.

Is there a "No Dawgs Aloud" policy, too?  Is that why we haven't seen David Grisman in so long?

John you crack me up!

Telluride loves dogs, has dog parking and is the only town I know of that has a speed limit of 10 miles per hour. The reason, a dog can outrun a car and not get hit.
Excellent. However it cost money to keep a dog in a condo. lots of money and unless you do this your dog has no where to go. I love my Yogi Bear more then most people and he has to stay behind. Anyway its nice to sleep in for once and not have to take the dog out first thing. Medal

+1,000 Do yourself a big favor and don't bring your dog. The festival and campgrounds are STRICT about this policy, trust us. The local kennels fill up in advance and you will be screwed. Just telling it like it is...

Hey Skubes, I hope you're not mad at me, just trying to have some pre-festival fun on a cold and snowy WV day.  Here is a pic of Scuppers getting his drink on at I think DelFest 2013.

Think he's hitting the American Honey in this one.

I bet a lot of you could relate to the back story behind Scuppers ( Scuppers Wikipedia entry ).  About 20 years ago me & 3 buddies were at a small bluegrass festival in Ohio.  Was a beautiful warm & blue sky day and we had just seen Bill Monroe perform main stage.  Had steaks and ramps & taters cooking on the grille.  Back in the shade of the trees we had 2 corny kegs of homebrew and a keg of nice microbrew all on ice & CO2.  Also had some other fine libations if I recall.  One of those perfect Festival memories.

So we are sitting around the campfire talking about how we could make this perfect festival day even better.  Came up with a few ideas but they were all kind of lame.  Until my buddy Bob mentioned it would be nice if his dog was there.  We are all dog lovers and agreed that would be fun for us but not so much for our dogs who would have to be tied up a lot, and we would worry about them when we were not around the campsite.

But the idea kind of nagged at me so next year same festival I borrow my daughter's stuffed animal Scuppers, get a Beware of Dog sign and a short piece of rope and tie Scuppers up to our EZ Up.

He was a Huge Hit!  Young bluegrass loving girls were stopping at our middle aged guys campsite to have their pictures taken with Scuppers.  Many jokes were made about how well he 'Stayed', roll over, etc.  Was chastised severely for not putting out bowls of water and kibbles for Scuppers.  And you folks know it doesn't take much to get a fellow festivarian to stop at your campsite anyways, Scuppers was and is a great ice breaker.

Hope y'all don't mind me having a little fun here.  Can't wait for warmer weather and festival season and hitting the road with Scuppers.

Well played, sir! You are going to fit in just fine. Round these parts we call American Honey "Hooch". Yep, there is an association to the tie-dyed, lamp shade wearing, freak of nature also known as Hooch who hails from Camp Run A Muck in Town Park.

PS - please bring him by Run-a-muck.  We'll make sure you both get a shot of the crunchy frog.  He may never be the same, though.
