Jeff Austin Band / Tony Furtado @ TBF

Saw the Jeff Austin Band last night for the first time at the SOH and wasn't sure what to expect going in, but was pleasantly surprised at how good they sounded as an ensemble and also liked how Jeff's unique style and prowess on mando still shined through brightly.   Guess it is what it is re: the whole Yonder break up, but glad to see him moving forward with his thing & would like to see him at the TBF in the future at some point.

Likewise, also saw Tony Furtado a week ago at the SOH and I didn't realize, but it had been quite some time since he played in Telluride, let alone the TBF.  He's definitely got a very unique sort of approach which hits the spot with good frequency & would also like to see him back on the Town Park Stage in the future.

I always find it interesting how music often serves to connect people, where words may have failed.

Glad to hear the report, FOM. I can't wait till they come to Boulder and would love to see them play TBF as well. I see they are starting to have some good festival dates lined up for later in the year. Great band he's put together.

I guess "It is what it is" with Yonder is far preferable than the "It is what I say" or "It is what it ain't" re: The Black Crowes breakup. 

I was wondering if you had a chance to catch the CRB when they played the conference center earlier this year?

Yes Sunny, it is a great band ... they really seemed to click well.  However, as much as I was able to appreciate their playing & general take on things, I couldn't help but feel like I was child of a divorce sitting @ Thanksgiving dinner at only one parent's house.  Then again, a newly configured Yonder doing their own thing allows for two bands to be spreading the wealth.

Was never really a huge Black Crowes' fan, yet for some reason I've really dug the CRB ... maybe because they're a bit more on the "lighter side" (tonal) of things vs. the Crowes.   Really like NC.   Yeah, caught the Conference Center show just after NYE ... I thought they played really well even though I was kind of spent after seeing SCI for three nights.   Saw them first at Telluride Blues and Brews a couple years ago, then twice this past summer as a co-bill with Ratdog.  I think they're only getting better with time.

I agree with that. I've never really understood the taking sides thing. I like what Yonder has done with the time allotted and I think we'll just continue to hear more good stuff. They really cooked the main stage last year, for certain.

Not into taking sides either ... but I'm sure their issues were very real to one another (obviously).  I think there'd be a great job out there somewhere for mediators / therapists dedicated exclusively to solving internal strife between band members.  Then again, maybe this was a long time coming & is for the best.

Yeah, it does seem that Chris is way into the CRB.  Hopefully, they continue on their current trajectory ... I think they'll only keep getting better.

Nice to hear the report on Tony Furtado also.  He's truly amazing, whether as a solo act or with his band.   And he seems to really be working it lately, with several recent swings through the Southwest.  So, I'm seconding the motion on Tony Furtado!
