I've had a blast listening in through the KOTO stream all weekend (a small consolation prize for having to skip the festival this year), but I'm really crossing my fingers and hoping someone is getting some good recordings from the weekend. If so, please share with the sad souls that couldn't make it! That Ray set in an hour is going to be something special!

As an every-other-year attendee, I'll tell you that recordings of the main stage tends to surface almost entirely within a couple of weeks (either on the taping board here, on bt.etree.org, cotapers.org, or a combination). Certain Nightgrass is a little trickier for some reason - maybe a taper could explain that better than me, but I know I've been looking for last year's Punch Sheridan set consistently to no avail. :-) Regardless, just be patient and you'll be able to live it up :-)

Same here! Would really love to hear the Keller Williams set again. I know people weren't too fond of Ray's demeanor on stage, but I would enjoy listening to his set as well.

Processing and tracking a single concert can take hours and hours and until you've done it you have no idea what's involved. 

The tapers at TBF have hours and hours of data to get through and it takes time to get it right.  Be patient and you will be rewarded.

That's true, but that said, some sets are already popping up over at etree. Be patient, but keep an eye out -- tapers are maniacs for the music, too. :-)

Thanks for posting...I always have trouble downloading this stuff....does it require a lot of extra disc space?
  I thought it was a cool idea Tim and Darrell had offering their set on a flash drive. I wish PB would do the same for the WHOLE festival...I'd certainly buy it. They could cover costs and divide with the artists...

Surprisingly, there is already quite a bit of TP, Elks, and Nightgrass over at bt.etree.org.  Thanks so much to those who do this.

Search for "telluride" on etree, and sort by date added.  It's that simple.  I'm sure there will be more added, as this is quite early after the event for things to show up.  You will need something like utorrent to download the files.  Most of these are uploaded to etree in .flac format to preserve quality, so yes, you will need plenty of disk space.

In addition, you will need a player on your computer that plays .flac files, and if you intend to use them mobile, then you will need an app on your device that will play these formats as well. I'm half-deaf in one ear anyway, so I just convert the .flac files to .mp3, which, although slightly lower quality, just about any player works with, and the file size is smaller.  Search google for "flacsquisher" if you want to convert the format.  It's free, easy to use and doesn't include any spamware.

I too would like to thank all the wonderful folks that have been putting up the recordings on etree. Lots of great shows out there already, main stage, Elks, Nightgrass. Right now there are only 5 main stage shows that are not there

Last year I think Dispatch was the only band that refused to allow taping.

Hey, guys -

I'm a complete newbie at the etree thing.  What program do I need in order to play these back?  Do I just download from the site, or do I have to convert them to mp3s?

FLAC is just a compression utility for audio files, just like mp3. The difference is that compressing music with mp3 is achieved by "throwing away" a large percentage of the audio content to achieve the reduction in file size. Because of this, mp3 is considered a "lossy" format. Some people claim they cannot hear any difference, which may be true if you're playing it on small portable devices without much in the way of a speaker system.

FLAC compresses (reduces the size of) audio files, but does so without any loss of music. It is considered a "lossless" format. Many music collectors store their music in FLAC format as an "archive". If they want to make a copy in mp3 format or to burn a regular compact disc, they simply use any of a number of utilities to accomplish this. This is the same concept that most people are familiar with with such file compression utilities that create ZIP files. Converting FLAC files to another format is really the same as UNZIPPING files.

There are many utilities that can uncompress FLAC files into a variety of audio formats. Some add an additional step by requiring that you first convert the FLAC files to WAV format and then convert the WAV files to mp3 or to burn a CD from the WAV files. A free utility that I use that will burn a CD directly from FLAC files without first requiring converting to WAV files is Burn Aware Free. It can also convert FLAC to mp3 directly. I use it under Windows 7 64-bit. I'm not sure if there is a version for Apple computers.

Once you've downloaded the FLAC files to your computer, if you just want to play the FLAC files on your computer without converting them to another format, there are also audio players that can play FLAC files directly. WinAmp is one, but there are several that can be found on the internet.

Linds, I use a program called UTorrent to download the flac files. I have UTorrent save the files in a specific folder. Then I use another program called Format Factory to convert them to mp3s, which you can then import into ITunes or whatever player you use. There was a kind person on this board that showed me how to do this a while back. Send me a PM if you want some help walking through it.
